    It is Google saying, again, an affiliate site needs to have independent quality and value and not just be a commissioned pass-thru to the merchant.

    I don't believe Google has previously referred to affiliate sites as being doorway pages, and it broadens the definition of a doorway page.

    There are a lot of affiliates whose idea of an affiliate page is to not spend more than 5 seconds copying the merchant's sales page, or running a script that imports product descriptions from Amazon. That wasn't a strategy for making big profits to begin with, despite what some script sellers proclaim, and this newest algo adjustment will probably usher ever more affiliates to the exits.

    On the other hand, if you're smart about these issues seeing your competition get whacked isn't such a bad thing.
