Does keeping content fresh help?

My ecommerce site is heavy on content, and is ranking quite well.
Does anyone know if it still works to keep the content fresh by continuously going over the old pages and update/change the content?

Considering hiring someone to go over all old pages, one by one, and add/change the content somewhat to keep it fresh.
If anyone knows if this is good, bad, or useless, that would be great!

I'd say that would help but creating new content consistently is always good. Also in order to not have to change your content, create evergreen content which is content that stays relevant no matter what time or date it was published.

You can update old blog posts but I wouldn't. You can hire someone but the money you'll spend can be used for other more important stuff like certain SEO strategies or paid ads.

What I would do is continue creating content, continue creating my list and focus solely on creating traffic, building relationships and closing sales.

Yes it is, I would always consider content as the King of all SEOs. If you have good and unique content, share it in your website, you do not need any Off page SEO, Just On Page SEO and indexing the Website to all search engine is enough.

I wouldn't worry about updating the existing pages..Instead, focus on continuously creating new pages. If your old pages are already ranking then they won't need changing..If anything, it never would hurt to build some links into those existing pages!

  • I agree with the aforementioned pieces of advice. Rather than spend time tweaking the old posts, focus your efforts in creating fresh and relevant new ones. Putting links into the pages that are already ranking is also a good idea.

Fresh content keeps not only search engines coming but web visitors which is the best thing you can do an ecommerce site.

So instead of updating old post, focus on creating high quality new content.

These guys saying fresh content ranks pages are clueless.

Matter of fact a static home page will be more likely to hold a SERP position while a dynamic home page will have a tendency to bounce around the SERPs for a target keyword.

    Hows that for fresh content?

Ecommerce site requires comments from the buyers and in this way you have fresh content. Once you posted about a product you cannot update again as you already written everything.

Reviews can help for gaining more exposure.just like amazon reviews.

Freshness only seems to matter for keywords that are related to trending topics, ie recent news stories.

yes it helps and if you are posting the dates, I also suggest you remove the dates of your posts so it does not show old dated posts. If you can't post any new content then focus on social promotion through twitter and facebook fanpages.

Fresh content is not enough to satisfy your audience but creating it interesting and engaging to the users will tell the search engine that your site is a hub of information. Old post must not be edit or change but adding a new piece will be better for the site's performance.

Obviously fresh content is more helpful for Google rank. The goal of the search engines is to give back the most related brings about end users. For your part, this calls for a good evaluation of your own articles. What part of your web site would certainly help almost all from freshness?
Older articles of which is present in order to crank out pageviews, yet achieves very little more, really does a lot more cause harm to than best for online. On the other hand, fantastic articles of which regularly replies the wearer's dilemma may stay new forever.
End up being new. End up being related. Biggest, always be helpful.

Try the so-called content recycling - make old posts into an infographic or a video. Of course, don't forget to share it.

Should you edit the old articles? Well, I would not touch any that are converting or doing great in the SERPs. However, if a piece isn't visible and isn't selling it's not fulfilling the purpose. Why would you not rewrite it?

Does fresh content bring visitors? Sure, if you've got an audience somewhere and you're able to share it. Does fresh pieces of content affect SEO? Well, not that much. If Google views your site as authoritative enough, your new piece might get a small initial boost with the related keywords. Or it might not.

Often your "evergreen" content beats the crap out of your new pieces, no matter how bad the old was or good the new is.

Yukon is right on home pages, as usual.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
