Hi,

What is your opinion regarding EMD domains? Do you still buy? How are you doing with EMDs?

I found some nice .com EMDs and thinking to buy and just wanted to get others opinions & views.

Thank you.

I dont see any harm in buying an EMD, but dont expect a much SEO advantage just because of exact match. Build diverse backlinks and pay attention to onsite SEO.
In whole treat them as any other normal domain.

I think google has penalized low quality EMD sites, and if you are looking to buy a Domain which your visitors can remember easily, then you can buy it.

Though I like HMD , my concept , half matched domains :p

      Learned something new -> HMD
      Never thought about that, lol!

Those links are STRONG if they have high Authority, otherwise they are not worth.. Don't forget to think if people will LEAVE this website if it's working for them!

Like arpitagarwal82 mentioned above, don't buy EMD for the sake of SEO purposes.

You should buy a site URL based on your branding. But that does not mean all EMDs are bad. It's great if it's relevant and also easy to remember.

    Let's take the following example.

If you sell weight loss programs, and your name is Bob.
You could either buy a domain called bobfitness.com
or weightloss.com (of course this is not available but you get what i mean).

However, if you e.g. sell women's high heel shoes, it would probably be better to buy
    bobshoes.com versus womenhighheelshoes.com

Just remember, whichever is easier to brand, go with that. SEO can be done whether or not the domain is exact match. So don't worry too much about that. [But of course, don't buy fatloss.com if you're trying to sell muscle gaining workouts.]

There are some tricky things to use the EMD domains. Now-a-days, you can add 1 word at the end of the domain. Suppose your target keyword is "MBA Education" then you can use mbaeducationhub or mbaeducationinfo. This will be helpful and not give you the Google's EMD penalty.

I don't see a point in EMD's. I don't buy them, they don't have any influence on rankings. I would rather buy a quality expired domain.

  • Meh, I tried EMD for around 1 year, and I find that the G likes sites with a lot of pages, or who are authorities in specific umbrella gurus that covers a lot of niches

I have done some testing on EMD's but the results were inconclusive.
My overall conclusion is that they will rank... sometimes, for some terms, and others will rank for everything except the keyword phrase in the domain!

In the current scheme of things, and in my humble opinion a brand name is the way forward, if nothing else it is a lot easier to promote a brand than a possibly spammy-looking EMD
