For a health niche in weight loss, is like health.com a good backlink? Or what type of websites am I looking for to use as backlinks.

    Of course it is. Not only that, but any backlink is a good backlink, as long as it either helps you rank or brings in traffic. And the website you mentioned could bring in a lot of traffic!

    any site with health and weight loss topics are good.

    posting on sites other than those still count as backlinks, but won't do that much good. the reason for this is because your site is a niche site. for some webmasters, post that links to other niche is a spam and they don't like it. furthermore, google likes niche websites that are interconnected because it's easier for them to know what the site is all about.

    backlinks no matter what form it is, can give you exposure. but to become an authoritative niche website, you need to stay on your path.

    Backlinks type are of same kind in every industry and segment. The only thing is you have to look out for niche specific website. If its a bookmarking site look out for the niche specific bookmarking site and build a backlink there with. Similarly other websites to build backlinks should also be considered the same way.

    Yep, and you should concentrate on looking more at the PR side of websites to build backlinks. Concentrate on appropriate and relevant websites/forums/blogs.

    You should also look to make sure they are follow links for the best link juice

    Backlinking seems to be a confused topic. I run a health-related blog (and I get substantial traffic there) which features mainly guest author articles, and I have requests for both do-follow and no-follow links. Occasionally, when a guest author has an unrelated link in his/her bio, I will get a link removal request.

    I'm trying to built it into an authority site.

    It is a good backlink because it's in the same niche but I would use a site like Bodybuilding because it's not only tied to health but it also involves fitness as well.

    That would be an excellent backlink. Sub pages are worse and articles worse still, but even the articles are not worthless on such a site either. I've got no idea how you're planning to get your link on the front page or even the site, though.

    Especially since the site looks tacky, is slow, and is basically just another slim affiliate site.

      That is a good question, I'd also love to hear what's the plan here! The health.com website doesn't even link to too many outside pages.
