Hi Guys

Could anyone shed any light on the expected Google update on April 21st?

From what I understand the search is effectively going to be split into 2...

Mobile
Desktop

So, 2 index...the mobile search will no reflect the desktop search.

Is this a simple way to interprate this?

Thanks

Matt

Search is already split into 2.

All they are doing is taking into account whether or not a site is mobile friendly as a ranking factor for mobile search.

21st is the mobile update. It remains to be seen exactly how they do it but it is my basic understanding that rankings could be dramatically different for desktop and mobile.

The best precaution would be to make sure your sites load fast and render well in mobile browsers.

It will be interesting to see how hard they punish sites that don't.

So, all websites must be mobile frendily is the bottom line.

      Not really.

Sites that rely on mobile search traffic should be mobile friendly. If your site does not rely on mobile search traffic and you are not trying to rank it for mobile search, then it won't matter.

I guarantee you that no site worth its salt with google will lose anything.
Google is not that stupid. What they show on "mobile" has always had
a different algo. They factor in different things from the user-side.

People using mobile search are probably doing much different searching.

Google is not going to love your site more than amazon just because you
think it's optimized better for mobile. Nor will they automatically drop
        it lower because it's not.

Again, google is not that stupid to show heavily mobile optimized site,
        "just because."

I can hear it now....the same clowns who could not make their website
fast enough, thinking that actually mattered, are now furiously discovering
"mobile," and trying to find the Pied Piper. Or is that Chicken Little?

Google was already running an update before the public knew about an update. It's happening right now.
