Meta tag of redesign website

Hi,

My Old website is Ranked for Many 2 Phase keywords, in that website there is Very Less optimization has been done as per the standard practice guide of Title tag 56 chars and and even not installed meta tag for every page of website.

Despite of that search engine crawl metatag from relevant content of Home pages, now we will go to change the website home page, and old home page content will not anymore in new website only in home page.

So Question is
Did I to need create the Metatag according to best onpage practice or put SERP metatag which is display in Search Engine result page(SERP) , which is already rank well.

    Meta tag reflects what exactly is that web page is about. Though it is not a measure for search engine ranking, it gains the user click through. So it should be relevant to the webpage content.

      No, meta tags (here) are what YOU are trying to shmooze google into thinking what
      your website is about. Which is why they don't use any for ranking, and may not use
      your description.

      at the suggestion that somehow a user will click your link because of your shmoozed
      description. Whoever first said that, should be shot.

    If some rank is there with the current meta data. Then I would believe that there should not be any change. Because any ways ranking has already been achieved. Any tweak may lead to changes in ranking. It may be drop or hype. Hence my recommendation is like there should not be any changes.

    I'm guessing you think there's only one meta tag since your generalizing the word.

    Meta description is only for the purpose of displaying short and crisp information about your website in search engine result, changes in meta description will not affect your search rank or website optimization.
