If you're buying a new domain, Google is loving "BRAND" domains now, i.e. TheMoneyMan.com.

Not sure how "brandable" this sounds but I guess you could buy PerfectMoneyBankCard.com

Look at the top 3 competitors. Are they going for your keywords? (right click, in Firefox, and look at page info. They're going after the same keywords if they have them in title, in url.

If they do not have them in title or url, they're not going after them directly, so it would be easier to beat them.

Of course, the top competitors could be pages on some super-authority sites, so they could have power from that. They could also have some good links. (Notice I wrote 'good' not 'many.')

To see how good their liking is, go to majesticseo.com or some such site, and see what links they have, what anchor text there is, what type of sites the links are from.

Pay extra attention to the links that have your keywords as anchor text.

You will have to get as many links + 1 from the same (or similar sites) to beat them (assuming the same onpage optimization). If your onpage optimization is better than theirs, you'll need fewer links (how many fewer depends on the quality of your links and the quality of their links).


Also, make sure there's some traffic for whatever keyword you choose to go for.

You do that by checking Google's keyword planner. Or by writing a page for each keyword and pushing it high enough in the SERPs (high enough that Google will show it somewhere, even if on page 8 or 17, if it shows at least 8 (or 17) for that keyword; then by looking at your google webamster tool's search query report (or some other program that tracks where your traffic is coming from).
