Removing Links After Page Load - BigCommerce SEO

Doing some SEO on a BigCommerce site and it's very frustrating since you have very little control over the navigation linking structure to shape the link juice flow of the site.

The developer added some javascript that has all the links to all the product brands hidden from the drop-down as the list was way to long. The problem is, Googlebot still picks up the links and the links are automatically added as a function of creating those category pages. The only way to remove them is to remove those sections of the catalog.

Without having control over how the HTML for the links themselves is generated, is there any JS tricks that would actually remove the links after the page loads so they are not picked up by the bot? I doubt it but seeing if I overlooked something.

Look at the Google cache (text version), does the javascript links even show up?

No JS tricks will achieve what you want.

The 'hidden' links using I assume a combination of javascript and CSS (standard sort of stuff) is just for formatting for users, Google 'sees' the links even though you don't see them in a browser.

As Yukon suggested the Google cache will show you what Google sees. You could also turn javascript off to see what Google probably sees.

Have you considered changing the format of the links to a basic dropdown menu? Google won't treat the dropdown menu as links, but your visitors can still access the links. Another option is if the links are sitewide pop the code for the links in an iframe, nifty little trick to remove sitewide links from Google. Want to see in action go to the first or second link in my sig, note the social media links on the right, they are loaded in a separate webpage and accessed via a simple iframe. Means rather than linking (they are simple image links) sitewide to 5 social media sites only one webpage (this one http://stallion-theme.co.uk/wp-content/themes/stallion-responsive/social.php?author=1 ) holds the 5 links. Using iframes you can pull all sorts of content off a page for SEO reasons.

Sounds like you need access to the code that creates the site (assuming you know how to change code) or get the developer onboard to modify the script they use.
