Questions about sessions - Google Analytics

Hi,

I have the following question.

Say I notice a growth of 7% in google analytics traffic going to my website comparing 2013 - 2014 and 2014 till now.

How can I estimate if this growth is low, normal, good or impressive?

I want to come to a conclusion if I have a problem in growth but I am missing a measurepoint.

Thank you

Compare the growth in 6 months that will give you a better picture as you will get to know whether the traffic is increased in comparison to last 6 months or not. Also, compare per year wise.

      Okay, good tip. 6 months.

I know did 1 year. And there is growth. But how do I know is my growth is normal compared to my industry?

Maybe I have growth, but the growth is super low compared to my industry
Maybe I have growth, but the growth is high.

I am in B2B, small business.

To compare your data with aggregated industry data, use Benchmarking in Google Analytics.

But there is no need to know that stats you are asking for. If you are doing better then your past then its really good. 7% is not a small growth at all there is still half year left. And some businesses do good even if their industry is in loss.

Why was this a dumb question? Most of the time, dumb questions leave page 1 rather quickly so maybe I can learn from the dumbness of my Q

    Sorry for the delayed response.

If the growth is constantly increasing that means your website is growing. Check quarterly as well as annually this will give you better picture and help you in understanding better.

Also, you can check from the medium from which are your getting traffic as this way you will get to know if your traffic is increased so this is through which medium.

If you can find similar sites to compare to, that would be a good way to evaluate your level of traffic. However, there's always those who break big, and those who wither away. You're going up which is nice, but 7% doesn't look like that impressive to me. If you're running a very small site with weak traffic that's almost in the margin of error. Of course it's completely opposite if you're running a huge site in a saturated niche.

Google Trends might show something useful about the overall trends with your keywords.
