Newbie: How does FORWARDING my domain affect SEO?

Hey everyone,

Thanks for reading. This is my first post, and forgive the newbie question if it's a simple answer.

I have an insurance agency website that is hosted by Wix. However, instead of using the Wix.com/blahblah123/home.html, I've purchased my own domain (called a2insurance) and I FORWARD that domain to the Wix website.

My question: How does this impact SEO? Does Google rank my WIX page? Or does it rank my DOMAIN name (a2insurance)?

In other words, if I optimize a2insurance, then I decide at a later date to forward a2insurance to a DIFFERENT site (not Wix), will a2insurance still remain high ranking?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    If you redirected a2insurance to another website the SEO power (backlinks, domain authority) will transfer to another site but has to be done correctly with 301 redirects. Plut it will take some time and there is a chance to loose some of the rankings.
