Please excuse my ignorance...I searched this and found old threads. I am using a scraping tool and found out quickly I ought to be buying proxies. Any recommendations for buying proxies in 2015? Also, is there anything wrong with it legally? Or is it just something big G frowns upon and will lock you out for a few hours/ give tons of captchas?

Blasting a ton of requests from a single IP address will get you throttled. Proxies are business as usual even for something like checking your SERP results.

I'm currently using SharedProxies.com. Far from perfect, but I've tried more expensive ones that were much worse.

That's not true If each request is targeting unique domains, example, checking live backlinks.

If you're scraping something like Google, sure, they'll throttle an IP.

The service has excellent coverage. However, when I tried it for the stuff that I do couple of months ago I found out that too many users had the same idea. Kept getting CAPCHAs. It's one of the only well-known proxy providers that has nodes in my home country, so there's an obvious reason... Your mileage may vary.

In my experience the results are fairly accurate even if the proxy IPs aren't in your country as long as your SERP tracker does its job.

Whatever service you go with make sure they aren't overselling, you get a server to yourself and the pings are good. Most important is the overselling. Even if you get dedicated IPs, if the server those IPs are on has several different users on it, then be warned. If someone tries to force hundreds of threads through their proxies, then the server will slow down and that means it'll affect you as well.

You can get a dozen private proxies for very cheap, so you can be sure that these operators are overselling. But so is most of the industry. It's about the level of overselling.

In this case I'm willing to take slower proxies for lower price. The SERP checking is going to take for ages no matter what.
