SEO - How difficult is it, really?

Hi all,

So I'm a week or so away from finishing up my first niche site ever. I feel good, not great, about the content I put out and am hoping to at least make a splash in my niche.

So here's my question: How hard is it really to rank in Google with a keyword that isn't overly saturated? I just want to know, now that my content is up and created, am I just about to head into the real grunt work of making some actual profits off niche sites, or is the worst part behind me?

I know that link building is the way to for ranking in Google and am ready to research more into how to rank my site, but I just wanted some initial input before hand.

Thanks a bunch!

It should be noted that you have to be careful with link building. Strategies that worked in the past may get you penalized now. ie Keyword anchor text

SEO is not difficile, but it is very time consuming!
You need to write lots of quality content to build good links. Always keep in mind - quality over quantity

What strategies will penalize you now, that worked before? Is there a better thread for this question that may already have the answer?

Link building alone will not rank your content.

Yes, it will. You just need more (or more powerful) links and you have to be good at using your anchor texts.

I'm assuming this is referring to link building?

Also, I am aware of most of the on site things to do to make sure my website is optimized, but is the only off site aspect to SEO finding other authority websites to have links pointing to my website??

I'm not interested in the keyword, but no one can estimate how hard it will be to rank for a certain keyword without seeing the keyword because it's largely keyword-dependent. Some keywords are easy to rank for, others are difficult to rank for, and some are impossible to rank for as an individual.

      Ejsuhh,

Basically SEO is based on keywords. Keyword means? A keyword, in the context of search engine optimization, is a particular word or phrase that describes the contents of a Web page. Keywords are intended to act as shortcuts that sum up an entire page. Keywords form part of a Web page’s metadata and help search engines match a page to with an appropriate search query.

Do check this link for more information.

SEO is not difficult, but to outrank a competitor who may have been in the business for over a decade, it is often pretty much impossible. It is far harder to rank these days than most people will admit to.

Social media and advertising is often easier these days. Link bait is usually a better idea than creating backlinks to yourself. Almost all links, including the ones in my signature below, are pretty much completely useless for SEO,

Fairly saying that SEO techniques are very easy, but ranking a site through this is quite tough. It is a very time taking process and you need patience for doing this. Content and quality are everything here because impress Google is not so easy.
If you want to be successful in this field, then you need good quality work with patience.

Hey! Ranking a website in Google isn't possible easily. Its very tough to do so. Even SEO is not a long term process. It can help you to some extent and can maintain your ranking in Google for certain periods only. The main thing that can boost the ranking of your website is your quality work and the customer support you are giving. So, focus on it. It can give you good results at the last.

Seo is not difficult process to rank any site on search engine because seo take time to rank a site . You don't need to create more and more back link for your site you just need to create high PR back link with high quality content .

Thank you all for all the input.

So what I've gotten from this thread so far is that SEO will take

    a) great content
    b) patience and time

Anybody know where I can go to really learn SEO tactics without having to pay some random individual to run the SEO for my site only to find out all the methods used were black hat methods?

This forum is a great place to learn SEO.

There are two types of SEO you need to learn and that is on page and of page SEO.

Learning on page SEO is where you need to start.

To answer your question bluntly SEO is not as easy as they make it to be.

SEO is not just about creating back links and to be really good at it you at least need to know a bit about html and especially meta tags.

Besides creating content what else did you do on the site with regards to SEO?

Before you created your content did you do proper keyword research and build your content around them?

Is the content you created original and do your pages have more than 300 words?

Is the design of your site responsive because that will affect your SEO?

Does your website have a fast enough load time because that will effect your bounce rate as well as your conversions.

Have you optimized your meta titles and meta description tags?

Have you optimized your images with img alt tags?

Have you optimized your H1, H2 and H3 headings?

Have you optimized your content to have between 2% and 4% keyword density?

Have you optimized your sites internal links to make it easier for your visitors to navigate your site?

Have you added out bound links on your site to authority sites relevant to your niche?

Have you added a blog to your website?

Have you added social sharing buttons and social media buttons to your site?

Have you made sure that your urls's are all seo friendly and contain keywords?

If you have done most or all of these then you can start your of page seo strategy.

Creating back links will only boost what is already on your site.

      Nobody uses meta titles.

If you have, why did you do it? This is usually completely pointless.

Nothing to do with SEO, but you might want to do it anyway.

Nothing to do with SEO. Well, if you're not being careful the links in the buttons are negative for your internal linking because they may add extra links that dilute the "juice".

Some people have ran tests on these buttons and the conclusion was that they're fairly pointless in many cases. People who want to share your content don't use the buttons, and the rest can't be persuaded by the buttons alone.

Kind of. It's usually easier to rank with content that's relevant to a query, but it's not necessary.

Hi there, well its good that your site is almost ready. Now you need do keyword research and target your main keyword that you need to rank in Google. First you need to update all onsite seo factors that can have a good impact on Google to rank your website.

Make sure you properly configure and submit your site in Google (webmaster) search console. Do well research, create quality contents and have well defined title and meta description tags in your website.

Beside onsite seo you need to generate traffic through social signals and authority link building. Update regular posts on social medias and build quality back-links on your industry related authority sites that will drive organic traffic to your website.

Hopefully by following these guidelines you can expect better ranking in Google.

While SEO is likely easier than you think, don’t underestimate the amount of time and effort it will take. You’ll get out what you put into it, so if you only spend a few minutes a day, don’t expect to climb the ranks on a national scale at any noticeable pace.

Simply you post quality and unique content in High PR sites then it's really worth it.

SEO Is Much Easier Than You Think. Throughout its history, SEO has been a cost-efficient and incredibly valuable strategy for business owners of all industries.

But despite the strategy’s simplified development, many business owners are still too frighten by the perceived difficulty of SEO to follow through with it. SEO is a time-intensive strategy, and it does demand significant attention, but it has reached a point where it’s no longer difficult. With the right mentality and a sound commitment, any business owner can start building an SEO campaign -- and reaping the many benefits.
