Google back link search

When I type link: mywebsite url into Google search I get search documents not available.

When I use Yahoo search I get some back links listed.

Do I need to do something else to search for for google back links?

    Google shows a tiny percentage of the backlinks they know about. Yahoo shows more, but neither will show you all of them. There is no way I know of to get an exhaustive list. You can look at your referrer logs and then crawl the sites but this will not show links that have not been clicked.

    If you verify your site in Googles webmaster tools you'll be able to see quite a lot of the backlinks that Google knows about.

    That will give you a much clearer picture of your Google baclinks. Alternatively, as mentioned above, you can use Yahoo to gauge your backlinks.

    one more thing, when you search backlinks in g, use
    link:yoursiteurl.com

    there is no space between the ":" and url. otherwise, the result is different.

    If you're using Google, you'll find that inserting wildcard operators yields different results. So searching for:

    Code:
    link:mydomain.com
    yields different results than:

    Code:
    link:*.mydomain.com
    or

    Code:
    link:*.mydomain.com/*
    etc...
