Using Keywords in h2, h3 tags for on-site SEO

So I know that you are supposed to be using your keywords in the titles, but I'm curious to hear what people think about the following, whether it's considered stuffing or not.

I'm taking a hypothetical keyword since it would be very hard to rank for this.

Lets say I did my KW research, and the KW I want to target is "WEIGHT LOSS". Then I found related keywords such as "WEIGHT LOSS PILLS", "WEIGHT LOSS EXERCISES", WEIGH LOSS JUICES."

So for my h2 tags, would adding those relevant keywords be stuffing? HEre is the example:

h1 - WEIGHT LOSS
h2 - WEIGHT LOSS PILLS
h2- WEIGHT LOSS EXERCISES
h2 - WEIGHT LOSS JUICES

Or would you do the following?:

h1 - WEIGHT LOSS
h2 - PILLS
h2 - EXERCISES
h2 - JUICES

This second version seems cleaner, but doesn't feel like you would target the relevant keyword as easily.

Thoughts?

    Definitely the second one. The first one is keyword stuffing, and since you're targeting "weight loss" as the main keyword of the article anyways, it makes more sense to readers to categorize the content with the second version.

    Go with this type of page setup.

    Also think of <h> tags as alternative page titles because it's easy to coax Google into using <h> tag text as SERP titles.

    Thanks guys. So I was looking at one of Gael's websites who runs authorityhacker.com and is also a great SEO guy. Check out his page: The Many Health Benefits of Lemon Water

    Obviously he's targeting "Lemon Water." Check out his h2 tags, they all have "lemon water" in them. This is why i'm confused. Some SEO guys say not to do this, and yet, you have a great SEO guy like Gael doing just this and he's running an authority white hat site.

    Thoughts?

      There's no do or die method. You won't be automatically penalized for having the keyword in your subtitles. It's just best practice to not overdo it because you run the risk of being over-optimized.

      Some of his subtitles like "12 Good Reasons to Drink Lemon Water" you can't really get away from using the keyword. Personally, I would rather see some of them taken out like "Precautions" rather than "Lemon Water Precautions"

      But it's not going to make or break his page. His article is not keyword stuffing and it reads naturally. Same with your own article. Read through it and use your judgement to see if it reads like you're forcing keywords in spots where they don't need to be.
