When looking in analytics today, I noticed that I had 8 visits from this key-phrase-

vitaly rules google ☆*:.。. .^=)oo

Being a white hat kind of guy, this took me by surprise since my site definitely does not talk about Vitaly or anything that he thinks he rules. But when I looked in the search engines, there were five results showing for this key-phrase and none of them were from me.

So I'm not quite sure what's going on but I thought it made an interesting topic to discuss. Obviously it's robot traffic made from a guy named Vitaly, but I can't guess past that. Any help?

Update Dec, 15 2016:: the spammer is back again using this message as a language spam. The following updated guide will help you prevent this and most of other spam.

Ultimate Guide to Getting Rid of All the Spam in Google Analytics
    ----------

This is Ghost spam there has been a lot of these lately, the difference now is that this time it shows as a keyword instead of a referral. There is also no clear reason for this one. Normally this kind of spam is to promote some page or drive traffic.

This type of spam never access your site, it hits directly GA, so to stop it you should add a filter there. Here you can find more information about this issue:

Even I have this problem since last week. I don't think it is like the other Ghost spams... They all have a bounce rate of 100%. This Vitaly stuff has a bounce rate of 60%.

      Not sure what it is.

Before, the common behaviour was very high or low metrics like bounce rate or Avg. session time. But since that was the major concern of people they are changing the way,

Doesn't matter if it seems like a "normal" bounce rate it is still fake data injected in google analytics and that's' why it should be stopped.

For now the best way to be sure is by checking the hostname, this will be fake or not set if it's Ghost Spam, like this one.

Yeah I've been seeing this a lot lately on my own sites and client sites. I thought I was aware of most of the referral and ghost spam out there, but this one I guess is new.

Filters are the way to go... some of these can't be fixed through htaccess, and just excluding them in your GA filter seems to be the only way.

Thanks - what htaccess code did you use, to block this?
