Trying to figure out what keywords I should be using

First post here. I should start by saying I'm not an SEO pro. But I've read around a lot, trying to get to grips with the basics, and I've invested in purchase of Market Samurai (plus a monthly subscription to Rank Tracker Samurai) to help me get on top of this. (I guess my first question is whether this is money well spent?! How id MS regarded here?)

Here's the thing; we run a high-quality Bed & Breakfast on the Northumberland coast in UK. We rely on our website to position us in front of potential guests, and for the terms I *think* we need to aim for, we are on p1. I got most of my present keyword ideas from Google Analytics in the days before organic traffic results were hidden.

Our business is busy, and succesful. I know (for SURE) that most of my bookings come from folks searching for accommodation via Google, and finding me. But I worry... what if I suddenly dropped off p1.

But when I use the Keyword Analysis tool in MS, even with most/all the filters turned off, I get almost zero keywords proposed. Those that are left are for Hotels - not my target market. I'm left with absolutely zero keyword suggestions. All others are being stripped out in MS keyword analysis, presumably because Google considers them low-traffic generators.

I'm not trying to monetize my site with ads or anything. I just want to make sure I'm performing well with the keywords which hundreds of thousands of holidaymakers are using to research their trip when choosing their B&B accommodation on the Northumberland coast. But presently I'm absolutely guessing, and I can't build a more 'scientific' or measured way to construct my set of keywords.

Can anyone (patiently) help, or explain how I should start. Or what I don't understand. Thanks.

This happens for keywords with less traffic, so they don't have enough stats to show various keywords.

Best bet is, take another popular holiday destination similar to yours and check keyword for it.
For example, for holiday in venice, people may search hotel in venice, B&B in venice.
Get the keyword list and you get idea how people for keyword, just replace venice with your location

Don't go for keywords you 'think' work. Go for keywords that work.

Google webmaster tools tells you which keywords got visitors to your site.

Analyze them, see which of those make sense.

Also, don't rely on Google to tell you how many visitors a keyword has.

I've got keywords that, according to Google keyword planner, 0 people use but, at the same time, in Google webmaster tools, Google webmaster tool tells me it's displayed a page on my site 46 or 149 times in the last 30 days for said keyword.

To the other point, Good thing you're worrying about Google traffic driving up.

From how far do people come to you?

Get yourself listed / or place ads in sites like: Attractions, Northumberland, Coast, Tourist Information, England, UK - Visit Alnwick.

Get yourself on the cites of little cities around you. Place ads in newspapers of little cities around.

    BE big on facebook.

Sponsor events in areas not too far from you.

    Hello!

It's good that you are on the first page of Google for your preferred keyword, and I also understand that your concern is what if your keyword drops from page one. I do have a nice suggestion for you, but it's up to you if you wanna pursue it or not in which can help you find the answers you want.

I know you have invested some tools like Market Samurai and monthly subscription of Rank Tracker (in which both of them hands down are one of the best SEO and keyword research tools up to date), but I think you should be considering yourself to invest your time in an effective and up-to-date SEO training course, which includes proper keyword researching and choosing for your website.

Before you want to execute your plan, you need to do your homework in the first place. As Robert Kiyosaki stated in one of his books, "A business already exists before it started". Your business will never succeed if you just go execute it without doing your homework by writing down your game plan, and that is about researching, analyzing and choosing keywords that really works for your own website. It's part of the process, and you just have to be persistent.

Even if you have some great SEO knowledge, I think you definitely need to learn more and lower down your pride. People are successful because they're always hungry for more knowledge and learning in a specific interest. I hope these tips that I have for you will make sense and can help get you the answers you need one day. I believe that your business will become successful, and all you have to do is simply increase your belief. Good luck!
