How many links is it safe to build per week without getting sacked?

A friend said he never does more than three per week for one client. I tend to agree with that thinking but I'm wondering what you guys do.

Think more about quality than quantity. If you're creating those links on highly reputable sites maybe 3 per week would be enough to increase your visibility. My recommendation is to never go for insane numbers of back links, slow but safe.

It doesn't matter, Google will never find all your links in a day/week possibly even a month (weak or buried backlink pages).

When Google crawls a domain for links they don't even crawl the entire domain in one visit. They'll keep coming back always looking for new/old links. It's a never ending process.

Absolutely right! This is what I learned through Google Webmaster Guidelines as well. There used be a nice animation of crawling and indexing by Google, can't find that now

Hey Fullstopseo Yukon about said it all. The spiders pick up links that were built weeks and months ago. What is important is Consistently. Keep those links coming in and pay close attention to your anchor text profile. Very Important now days.

I don't think it matters either. As long as you don't build hundreds of links on a daily basis, then don't worry too much about it. Besides, the simple fact that you should focus on quality should stop you from going overboard.

When I points links to a money site, I usually do them all at once ( on the same day), but I usually don't do more than 50 high PR links in one 'blast'. I've been doing it this way for many money sites for at least a year with no problems. I don't see any difference in ranking power of the links when I occasionally send links slower, such as 1-2 per day than when I do them all at once.

It will totally depend upon the niche of your website. If it is spam niche you can't guarantee about 100 links but if it is health niche you won't be penalized for 300 good links a month, in some cases 300 can be 3k as well.

3,000 backlinks a month? I doubt Google would appreciate such 'efforts', It seems a bit much, IMO.
