What CMS would be best suitable for a one-mans company, b2c, with a not high budget?

It's not for me, but for a familymember. Really

He wants me to do his online marketing, which is a great opportunity. He understands I am super new to this but he just wants to give me to chance.

Looking at his site, I think we first need to make it a bit more 2015. So I want to suggest him a good, not to expensive CMS system where we can focus sooner on the SEO/SEA stuff.

WordPress.org. I'm biased of course, but pick up a reasonably well-made theme and an e-commerce plugin of your choice, and you're already pretty far in the process.

My second option would be a hosted solution, because you don't usually have to pay much in advance, and can sort of pay for the site as you go. Of course, it's going to be more expensive in the long run, but there's always the possibility that the business idea doesn't work out at all. If that's the case, he's not spend $xxxx just to build a site.

    What's your excuse?

      Hi,

the business is already up and running. Also a server in place. Another familymember did the website, but the looks are very outdated imo.

[quote=amitkubssg;10052225]CMS is Content management system. CMS is the programing language by which you can create website. wordpress is the best CMS.

So you get wordpress for free, you put in on a serve with a login, and you add and delete content as you wish?

Why is wordpress.org free? Why are all plugins free? What is their business model?

I can see that you're here just to spam the forum, but "CMS is the programming language" is such a stupid line that I had to comment on that. No, the programming language is the programming language, and in WordPress' case that happens to be PHP.

"The best" is always relative. WordPress is fairly good fit for certain projects.

WooCommerce is very comprehensive, well-localized, and has a ton of plugins. WooCommerce itself is free, but their plugin license policy is a bit restrictive, and prices are a tad high in my opinion. I'm using WooCommerce because it speaks Finnish, and has our local payment options.

If you're from US I'm sure you have a great many alternatives.

The business model is Open Source. If you don't know what OS does, look it up. It's pretty fascinating what people have came up in that space.

Many major WordPress companies provide support, manage infrastructure, or built stuff around the CMS. Some plugin vendors operate with a sort of freemium model: you get their basic version for free, but have to pay for more features. Some just create plugins to learn, give back, or increase their clout.

Automattic is one of the bigger companies behind WordPress. The company was founded by Matt Mullenweg who's also the father of WordPress. Their main product is WordPress.com, the hosted blogging platform. They've got their own proprietary customizations on top of the system, but they use the same core product and contribute to the project. I've met couple of their employees in local WordPress meetings.

iThemes is another good example of a WordPress company. They provide several well-known plugins such as BackupBuddy and iThemes Security, a theme platform, and infrastructure for backups and site maintenance.

Depends on your requirements and traffic, but all you need is a hosting account. WordPress is the most commonly used CMS out there, so every generic cPanel host should support it. Of course, WordPress security is a topic you should investigate before running a live production site with it.

The bulk of customizations come in the form of plugins and themes. The latter are way more complicated that most templating systems that other CMSes use, but that's also the reason there's a thriving ecosystem around themes. You can build sort of mini applications just around themes, and customize your site almost any way you want.

I strongly recommend Wordpress. Not just because it's free, but because you can do anything with it, and it's very easy to use and customize to fit your own needs.

I would suggest WordPress or Web Force 5 both are easy to use and user friendly. I used web force 5 for my personal website and we used WordPress at work as well.

I tried to contribute with something worthwhile, but then I remembered what forum I was registered on and that my name was big enough to drive the point home.
