If you don't change anything on-site SEO related you should be fine.

I regularly change the date of posts when updating a post so the date is current, though the theme I use has an option to change the text associated with the date, so rather than it saying something like "Posted On Date" I use "Updated Date": basically not suggesting the post is new, indicating the post was updated.

In my experience this has no impact on SERPs, doesn't mean SERPs won't change if you changed the content, but just altering the date doesn't appear to have any impact.

I also tested fresh content SEO just by changing the date a while back (about 3 years ago). Have a plugin that can be used to automatically change the date of a post randomly, so if you have a site with 100 posts and set the plugin to run every 12 hours, an old post would get the current time/date every 12 hours (so 2 would update every day, with 100 posts about 50 days for all posts to update). I ran this test on half a dozen domains and didn't see any major SERPs changes.

The problem isn't the date actually changing.

The problem would be a typical Wordpress style blog adding/removing pages/links on the Home page of the site, example the last 10 blog post on the Home page.

Usually a Home page is one of the strongest pages on a domain so If you bump an old blog post to todays date (example) & that blog post shows a text/title/link snippet on the Home page, you might see the Home page ranking on Google SERPs for your blog post internal page keyword. Authority trumps weak pages.

The opposite can also drop a page in the SERPs, say for instance you have an old blog post showing a text/title/link snippet on the Home page & that snippet has been there for months/years, well established with Google re-indexing the Home page. In this case you would be removing an internal link from an authority page (Home page) that might possibly be the only reason your blog post was ranking on Google SERPs.

A static Home page would eliminate these types of problems.

    No, it won't.

    It's still the same post.

Unless you add or remove things in there, then it probably won't be affected at all.
