It's not the type of backlinks, it's QUALITY of backlinks.

Google has become very smart to find out low quality backlinks and filter them as soon as possible.

It's said, "If a backlink is easily accessible to everyone, it's not a quality backlink."

A quality backlink is very hard to gain that's why it has huge importance.

Links from very high authority blog, any education blog, any reputed web directory, a strong web 2.0 property and tons of many different ways are there.

But at the end, it's the QUALITY, not TYPE.

Back links from .org .edu and high PR theme related websites would be more effective always. Don't try to make back links from without PR websites. Its a waste of time.

Not this crap again. You're all completely wrong. You should be ashamed to push this .edu and .gov BS on other people. The TLD of the site doesn't mean anything.

High front page PR doesn't mean much unless your backlink is on the front page, or some page that's directly linked from it. In most instances I've seen these links have been something worthless like nofollow blog comments buried deep down on a forgotten page somewhere.

See the page that your "effective" backlink sits on. Is it linked from the main navigation? Does the page itself have backlinks for some reason? How many links are on that same page? And last but not least: is it a "followed" link?

Quality backlinks means not only a single type of backlinks it can be defined as mixed backlinks where dofollow, nofollow, .edu, .gov etc all types of backlinks are plays important role.

Remember that backlinks sites must be high page rank and high domain authority.

Backlinks from big authority sites which related to your niche are more effective. several link from health.com or cnn.com can beat hundreds of low quality forum profiles or blog comments.

However, it is really hard to get such links. If you can produce high quality content, you will get passive backlinks.

If back-links come from the high PR site then it is more effective to your website for increasing their own page rank. Like if Back-link come from .edu website then it is very effective for your website page rank.

Don't build backlinks just for the sake of building them. The best backlinks are those who are related to your niche and well targeted. It's not always about the number of backlinks, it's about the quality. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all

If you are talking about Google PR tool, Google said that "they're probably not going to be updating it again" so don't expect increased page rank.

If you are talking about SERP, only natural backlinks would give you boost in search position. Unnatural dofollow backlinks may harm your rank position.

Hi,

It's logical that a high quality backlink would come from a high quality website, and that a high quality site would also be a very trustworthy site. To determine if a website is trustworthy, search engines use a set of trusted seed sites, which they know for sure are high quality and which are difficult to get links from. The fewer the number of links away a site is from one of the seed sites.

To build on top of what has been said, other quality signs for a quality backlink are:
1. Topic relevance. You'll want your backlinks coming from pages with content relevant to your website. For example, you want motor pages if your page is about cars.
2. Language match. Everybody tends to naturally link to pages writtne in the same language than the original.
3. It's surrounded by text instead of a stand alone link lost somewhere in the margin of a page
4. Traffic. If your backlink is dofollow and it also sends visits, it'shows than it was a well performed link and will transfer ther ight amount of link juice,
