Specific 301 Redirect questions from Expired Domain

Hi Guys,

So I have googled and searched the forum, but info seems to be all over the place. Im wondering if anyone has any case studies or hard data (not just speculation or "just do it this way"):

Let's say I have a new site that is a few months old, never registered before, in the niche of "palm trees". I buy an expired domain that is about "king palm trees" with lots of PA, DA, PR whatever metric, say PR5 DA 50...lots of relevant links coming from Wikipedia, reddit, huffingtonpost, couple local news sites, etc. Everything is clean, no penalties, spam, poor turnover etc.

My questions (again, please cite relevant data or studies):
Is it better to...

1.) Rebuild the site using some CMS with a few posts on it. Wait a few days/weeks for it to get reindexed, then 301 those new pages to money site
2.) Rebuild the site completely separate, add a few links here and there to my money site.
3.) Rebuild the site completely, using the old url slugs for the posts to preserve link juice.
4.) Simply 301 homepage to money site
5.) 301 redirect all of the previously linked home/internal pages to money site (money site homepage and/or money site internal pages)
6.) Buy a couple more relevant expired domains and build a PBN
7.) Something else?

Thanks!

Ok, thanks for the answers...lets talk strategy.

Long run a PBN sounds like the way to go, BUT what if I don't keep up with it. Meaning only post say once a month, send a few links once a month, etc. Would it be better to just 301 and not deal with the PBN?

on 5.), no it would not be the same. Basically for 1.) I am building a couple of pages then redirecting or 4.) I am sending only the old homepage url to money site vs. 5.) redirecting all old url slugs, both homepage and internal to the money site home page and/or internal pages

It doesn't make sense to redirect slugs of the expired domain to slugs of the money site really... Unless you have very very similar content.

As for keeping up with the content on a PBN, It really depends on the site. If the domain you buy is a static HTML site (e.g. not a blog), then it doesn't really matter about updating it. Even with a blog, it's not too important to keep it pumping full of content, you should instead just try and space out the articles to maybe once every couple of weeks to keep Google interested and crawling it.

Anyone know what happened to my previous reply?

I agree with Pyronaut. Don't 301 just *some of the content* from the old domain to the new, it's pretty suss really, unless it makes perfect sense that the content has moved.

There's no real need to update the PBN sites constantly, plenty of sites in the real world that don't get updated. If you're paranoid, have 1 article written every other month...but all the same, so many sites around that hardly get touched!

Spend more time ensuring you don't leave behind a footprint, and make the site stands on its own two feet under real-world scrutiny, on the very slim chance that someone manually reviews the sites.
