Send out some scouts, round up the herd, circle the wagons...

WF is chock full of off-page SEO tips, tricks, shenanigans or hoopla. It's very easy to get lost in the hype and if you're a noob, you can get downright lost in the mix and start off on the wrong foot which can suck to reverse out of.

Very few people talk about what it takes to make the website solid before running off into the wilderness to find backlinks. So, what if...you simply circle the wagons? Put 95% (if not more) of your time and effort into making sure your site is something Google and people will want to share with others.

But how will they find your site? I'm not gonna Field of Dreams this for you. Just because you build it they aren't gonna magically come. BUT, if you build it and share it, they just might. In droves perhaps.

And when you get to the blogging part, perhaps it's better to think about what you're gonna write first before you get to pecking the keyboard. Quality articles are better than assembly line and mass produced letter wasters. Or, if you already have a blog with 100s of articles like I do, time to curate that puppy and start pulling weeds to let the grass (your site) grow.

These are random thoughts, but, to me, SEO as a whole burns me out quite frequently and I feel the need to always reinvent the wheel. But what happens if I just focus on the car I have and make it better?

End of outward expression of an inner thought bubble...

    Yep, very much true.

I met a guy from a local WP hosting company couple of weeks ago in an industry event. I knew they existed, but hadn't actually read their blog. We were discussing server setups on a general level. He then pointed out that they have blog entries about this stuff from their perspective. Checked the articles couple of days later (after recovering from the afterparties). Indeed they've got a nice site, and a well-written blog.

This was a very effective form of blog outreach, and put that company firmly on my radar.

Perhaps this doesn't have anything to do with OP. Sorry.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

    What's your excuse?

Your random thoughts had a boat load of merit.

"I just uploaded an unzipped - PLR site to Hostgator: how do I trick teh_Google into ranking it???"

The whole point of creating the site (that eventually, will make money) should be to offer a benefit to a visitor in some way (info to digest, a useful item to buy, a person to contact for more info, etc.).

Focus on the content; make it great. Then make more great content. Linkbuilding simply does not carry the weight it did 12/18 months ago.

I'm always amazed how IMers assume articles are important for making money online.
