Curation for Ranking a Site

I have a niche site or two I am thinking about launching.
If I were to start with a strictly content curation strategy do I think I could rank organically? More specifically, I am planning to post new and quality content daily. The content will not be original or unique but I will credit the source.
If I were to pick a niche that is not to competitive and collect my content from a site like, BuzzSumo do you think this is a sound strategy to rank a site? I would pick articles that are popular that have a lot of engagement on Social Media.
