Most Google updates are intended to make sure that the best content rises to the top of the search engine results. They are also intended to make blackhat techniques obsolete.

Thus, blackhat techniques are not recommended if you want to create a long term business that makes money for many years to come.

The "new wave" of SEO is to create super awesome content that can rank at the top of the search engines because it actually is the best result for the keyword it is trying to rank for.

There's a few blogs that can guide you in modern SEO. Backlinko blog is a pretty good one. He ranks on the first page of Google for "backlinks" so you know he is good at SEO.

"Content marketing" phenomenon is several years old at this point. Calling it "the new wave" sounds weird to me. Then again, "The New Wave of British Heavy Metal" happened in late '70s...

Well, he's popular and has accumulated a ton of backlinks over the years. That certainly helps a lot. He's done fair amount of well-researched pieces, and link bait.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

      What's your excuse?

    1. It depends on what you want and what your goals are. Black-hat is cheap, quick, and powerful. But it always has an expiration date. If you run a black-hat SEO campaign on your site, don't be surprised in 6 months when you get penalised and lose all organic traffic.

White-hat is expensive, slow, but focuses much more on the long term. Proper white-hat SEO will never cause you to be penalised, and is the safest option, and in my opinion the only option if you aren't looking for a quick buck and you actually want to make a long term living.

2/3. These questions are way too big to answer in full. All I can say is to read up on blogs from qualified, experienced SEO experts. The best two I can recommend are the Moz blog and backlinko.

    Hope that helps.
