hi all
still trying to learn stuff
so i see people talk about trying things out and see how they work with respect to seo techniques. ok, thats fine, seems logical.
my question is, how long does it take to see the results? im under the impression it may take months (or more).

and, if thats a good ballpark estimate, how can you tell if the results are due to the change or just natural due to something like added content over that period of time for example?

thanks in advance for any input on this

That depends on your situation and the level you're starting from. It's impossible to answer without any details.

Yes, it can take months to rank a site completely from the scratch. However, if your site is up and running, you've got some backlinks, and you've already ranking for something it's usually much easier to see some results.

You can't. That's the major issue with giving help on a forum such as this. What did the website owner do two weeks from now? How about a month? Everything affects the rankings to some extend.

Then again, you can usually make an educated guess when you've got some experience, and you've done some work on a site.
    Signature
Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

    What's your excuse?

You can't generalize everything in SEO when testing.

Example #1, I can edit a page <title> & have it reindexed & showing a new SERP title in a few minutes.

Example #2, building backlinks might take days/weeks before seeing any SERP movement depending on how fast Google reindexes the backlink webpage/s.

You never know with SEO, that why we're here on this forum. It depends on what methods and techniques you're using and how active you are, but only to some extent.
