Migrate from domain without www to with www

Hello,

Currently I have a Hostgator account with a main domain and plan to test a site by using it as an add on domain, so the site will be domain.com. If this new site become successful, I might get a separate hosting for it, and run on www.domain.com. Will this change from domain.com to www.domain.com have a negative impact on SEO or will I lost all the link juice originally going to domain.com?

Remember that if you don't have redirects in place

www.example.com

and

example.com

are two different websites, so if you have all your links pointing at one of them, the other site has no link juice.

The much more sensible way to do it, is to have a 301 redirect in place from the www or non-www version of the domain.
