to be fair, i mean, if i thought a blog about lets say giraffe hunting was a good idea, i would have to research giraffe hunting and i think i would have to ask some probably silly questions on giraffe hunting websites. just so happens his topic is SEO related so he has to ask his silly questions on an SEO site. i dont think that everybody thats writes content to attract traffic is an expert on their topic.

And that, my friends, is why tons of you fail.

You choose a niche that you don't know diddly squat about, but someone told
you that it would make money. So you make a site on lawyers or dentists.

I myself first starting building a website in 1997 on a topic I am indeed an expert
in. That first site is still up and kicks butt. Any new site I make, I strive to
become an expert in it.

BUT...if I am not a lawyer, a dentist, a real estate agent, loan officer, then
what the frick am I doing making a website for it? Just to clutter up
the net with more junk?

You can make money with any niche. And I detest the people who
buy a domain, install wordpress, and *boom* instant expert on dental
implants or mesothelioma....

Just think, last week I couldn't even spell webmaster or mesothelioammandcja,
and now I is an expert!

The best keyword "research," is to look around your house, office, or yard.

How many fools come here for advice..."I just made a site on legal advice
los angeles...now how do I get it number one? Oh by the way, I am not
a lawyer, nor do I live in los angeles"

I did this on one site way back in the day just as you describe. It actually makes money so I keep it around, but I haven't updated it because I hate the topic and don't care to learn anymore about it. I could make

I never could give my own take on the subject because I was just parroting and spinning what I read elsewhere.

In my opinion there are very few top sites done by one person that aren't a labor of love. I could make more money with the site I mention if I could bring myself to write more content, but I can't.

It really depeneds on your backlinks, anchor text, and how much variety your SEO has - for example, do you cross-link a lot (link to other pages on your site), or link to other sites - all of these factors (and more) together combine to tell Google you've got an authentic site - doing just one or two looks unnatural and suspicious.

To answer your question, it is a big "NO". You aren't going to rank for that term within 3 months of launching a brand new blog. I hope its not your intention to have a single blog post on your site. Hopefully you will be creating lots of related content.

IMO the sandbox is fairly strong these days for new sites. I have found newer sites are taking much longer to rank then they were a year or two ago.
