maybe I have not expressed myself well ...
I wonder , indeed, if it is normal for people to use expired domains (with backlinks ) web 2.0 to create a private network ...

He wasn't using private networks. Those were very public junk.

They were not in any way what I would call a private network. They were easy to find and pretty low quality.

Spence had discussed this in a podcast with Perrin. They had a decent portfolio of sites and not all were tied to RankHero and they did lots of other link building to other pbn's.

I'm not new to the game. I'm well aware of what they were doing. What I am saying is that if you are going to base your decision on whether or not to use private networks based on their experience, you would be making a mistake.

There are much better ways to go about it than how they were doing it.

I you follow him and read/listen to his stuff you will realize they were selling links and publicly pushing them to their visitors, a REAL PBN it is almost impossible to discover, not jus by Google, but even real people.

one thing is to have 2k junk sites spread across servers ... another is to have a good dozen sites with good domains to experiment with backlinks ...

anyway, Pursuits wrote this article sitting on a mountain of money from it... lol

  • Hey Aleac8! My 2 cents, man: Whenever you buy an expired network, you just really want to make sure you do your homework - you never want to risk getting a site that's going to bring you it's bad history with Google.

Always check: Moz stats, Majestic stats, Wayback snapshots, SPAM, geo location history & keyword history. It's a lot of work but it's worth it to get a quality site. You might want to use a domain crawler that does some of that work for you if you're regularly getting expired domains.

    Best of luck!
