When it comes to ranking a site, content is definitely king. Especially when you're adding fresh content everyday. Every other tactic comes second in my opinion.

Daily content is good, but how good is your content going to be? Posting every day is not easy, especially if you are in a small niche, where there's not much to write about...

And apart from that, you posting every day won't necessarily help with your rankings and to be honest, it's not something you should be too concerned about.

At the end of the day, you write for people, NOT the search engines, right? As long as you post good, interesting, engaging content and take part in the community, then your visitors will grow naturally.

hmm because a lot concern about SEO , etc so I wonder as mention earlier I have seem site never have much contents worst never update for months still can attract a lot visitors.

My advice . . .

Don't worry so much about SEO (on and off-site).

1. Target 1 primary keyword.
2. Target 3 secondary keywords.
3. Infuse article with viral potential.
4. Mixture of images and videos.
5. Practice content upgrades.
6. Call to action.
7. Quality trumps quantity.
8. Provide solutions.
9. Syndicate.
10. Grow list.

You do the above, ranking will take care of itself.

Fresh content is a ranking factor, yes, but the only sites that can really take advantage of this are news sites, and the like, with a lot of content writers working for them publishing material everyday. You would still do well, depending on your niche, if you only published one really high quality article per month. For Google, I would recommend 2000+ words of original content, about a subject that wasn't currently saturated. And keep other basic SEO practices in mind, like avoiding keyword stuffing, in both the article and in any included anchor text, as well as not linking to any spam sites. On top of that, gaining backlinks from high DA sites will help a tremendous amount, the higher the DA the better.

Well, it's not all about the content that you have on your site. The main reason is that back-links are critical to help your site gain authority in the search results which will then make it easier for your site to be picked up for long tail keywords along with some of the keywords that you're targeting. Yes adding fresh content on a regular basis is good, but your overall marketing strategy should not be limited to that.

There's a mortgage company around here. They have not touched their site since 2007. They are in the top 5 positions for 2 dozen keywords, top 1 position for at least 4.

And, did I mention it, they have not added 1 character since 2007.

I know the site owners. I've known them since 1999, I've tracked their site since they got it built in 2006.

Fresh content my foot.

I have an old blog that I use as a niche CMS (downloads). A couple of years ago I noticed the Home page was bouncing around the 1st page non-stop for a few of my main keywords I was targeting. I messed with that site for a couple of months trying to figure out wth was going on, why the non-stop SERP bouncing. It was an old site even back then, nothing made sense, it had a strong link profile, most were organic.

I eventually said ^%$# this, I'm not posting anything new on the site for a while, I'll work on my other sites. Sure enough, the Home page for that site stopped bouncing around the SERPs within a month of not posting anything new on the Home page.

That site has been holding positions at the top of the 1st SERP for multiple main keywords every since I went to a static web page. Live & learn...

Along with posting content on a regular basis you should start to create valuable backlink for your site. It will boost your site too. Remember only high domain authority can help you a lot. Others with low authority create mess for you. So far away from it.

He means the other way around, get sites to link to your site.

You can create your own sites and link from those to your site.

You can create content so awesome on your site that, when you show it to the owners of other sites, they'll say, Goddamn, I got to send my visitors over, to read this awesome content.

You can contact the owners of sites you think will be good for you and say, Hey, bro, I'll give you $5 bucks a month if you link to my site from your home page. I'll give you $1, if you link from anywhere else.

If the site has a lot of visitors or the owner is clueless and/or greedy, they'll counter offer with some number higher than whatever number you offered. If you still like the number, you go for it.

Generally speaking, low link rental price means low visitor/authority site; high link rental price means lots of visitors and/or authority.

From an SEO point of view, you want authority, even if the visitors aren't so many. From the point of view of direct visitors, you care about number of visitors over authority. However, authority boosts your rank, which leads to visitors. On the other hand, if you choose your sites you get links from carefully, those buyers are targeted, likely to buy from you.

So, it's best to have both.

But don't let the lack of one stop you.

Also, you were told to stay away from low authority sites. That's not useful. They're more likely to link to you than high authority sites.And, if they're not pure crap, they help.

Authority of 1 helps less than authority of 7; authority of 7 helps less than authority of 37, etc. But each helps. (I made up those numbers, since Google's stopped making public their PR numbers).

Don't get links from sites that have many outgoing links on one page. Definitely don't get links from sites that advertise that they sell links.
Get links from sites that sell ads... If they have a couple of ads on the page you're getting the link from, and not too many on other pages, get the ad, if you like their price (money vs number of unique visitors the page gets).

Post frequency is not a signal per se. However, having articles on hand with recent post dates does help SERPS.

Humans prefer recent information. Thus it makes sense that Google prefers recent information. If I google "best iphone games", I'm going to see recent articles. If you publish a list of best iphone games today, and your other ranking factors are good, you may show up in SERPS today. Eventually this article will fall out of top SERPs, replaced by more recent articles with comparable ranking factors.

I periodically update the post date on my popular pages and I can clearly see the effect this has on SERPS. Yeah, I could remove the dates but I'd rather for web searchers to see these "recent dates" in SERPs in order to hopefully increase my CTR.

If someone is searching for "best wordpress plugins", obviously an article published about a week ago will have an advantage over a five year old article that apparently doesn't contain plugins released in the past five years. In this instance, post date will likely increase my article's CTR and help it rank higher in the future.

Saying recent post dates do not matter is silly. Saying they matter a lot is also silly. It's just one of many factors. If you understand when and how to leverage it, it can be a significant factor.
