What do you define an easy to rank for keyword in terms of search results? For instance, I have a keyword with about 500,000 inanchor results. Would this be a good keyword to try to rank for? let me know!

The fewer results for that keyword on Google, the easier it will be to rank for that keyword.

Google doesn't discern between difficult or easy to rank keywords. The only thing they know is numbers.

The number of results doesn't mean anything.

That is just stupid. The number or results has nothing to do with how easy or difficult it is to rank for a keyword.

Generally speaking, the shorter the keyword, the harder it is to rank (compared to other keywords in the same niche/sub niche).

So, if you find a 5-word keyword, odds are it's easier than a 3-word keyword.

        So, for instance,

        lose belly fat
        would be harder than
how to lose 10 lbs of belly fat within 30 days.

If you're brand new to SEO, the hard thing is to figure out what keywords to go for, because you need a certain amount of searches... How low is your minimum would depend on your strategy and resouces.

Good luck with that theory. Do you really care about position #87 on Google SERPs?

The only competition that matters is the SERP position you want to rank. If you're aiming for the #1 SERP position, there's your competition.

Repeat for whatever realistic SERP position you want to rank for...

you won't find easy keywords other than looking in the search results and start looking at who you have to beat

there is a ton of free tools out there that can help you with that analysis

for me I take a quick look at the DA values and go from there

every niche is different but it requires you to roll up your sleeves and do the work

all the recommendations are old techniques that didn't really work then or work now

As long as you are sticking with long tail keyword that has exact searches with high enough number, you would be just alright, that's my definition of easy keywords..

We can get the some level of image for competition of the keywords based on few factors

    1. Competitors Page Rank and Page Authority
    2. Competitors Referring Domains
    3.Domain Authority and Brand Presence
    4.Link Profile
    5.Competitors On-Page SEO
6.Easy Target Results (When you see one or more Easy Target Results in the top 10, it’s time to celebrate. You just found a low-competition keyword.like yahoo answers, ehow, hub pages)
    7.Content Quality

It's more wiser to choose keywords low in competition with higher searches.

Easy or difficult? It's rather "less competitive" or "more competitive". And even this... it's upon to your budget, abilities and the will to beat your competitors.

      Hi there,
A few years back now I wrote some software which was taking this task over very easily when I had a problem or was looking for something like this with specific criteria items or what was needed with special attention to figure out the best way, and what was best to be use in any case private or professional! This has become a large Application over time which I use as often as possible yet I still use the general public and very powerful version in many of my sites to give visitors mostly Artists or Art orientated people the opportunity to view there own standing on various/different search engines provider which of course can be easily programed to suit! rgs aktell

If you don't have time to analyze, or you are in less competitive niches, you can rely on total number of search results for that keyword on Google. However, if you want to be precise, use tools like Market Samurai to analyze the competition.

It seems too competitive. Anyway do a TOP 10 result analysis and also allintitle:<your keyword> search in Google and see how many results are there. If you want you can use a tool like IBP but it's expensive. Manual analysis is preferred.

500,000 inanchor result seems very competitive. Also, inanchor won't mean anything if the top ten websites for that kw don't get that anchor text for backlinks. Google will rank website based on number and quality of backlinks but not necessarily on anchor text. If you want to analyze keywords quickly and for free, you can install SEO Quake in firefox or Chrome. Search for that keyword at Google then you can see that SEO Quake will label the top ten websites for that keyword with factors like total backlinks (important), index count, domain age (important) and more. However, keep in mind that this method or whatever competition analysis tools that you use is NOT going to give you 100% accurate info. These are just guidelines in order to build and optimize your website.

Based on the way you asked this question, I can guess that you have trouble finding keywords. My suggestion is to look inside Amazon best seller and hot new release section. Then, search at Google with SEO Quake installed for product name keywords listed in that section. I found tons of keywords which require zero backlinks to get ranked on Google with this method.

Long-tail keywords with fewer results are the easiest, but sometimes a keyword will have tons of results if its made up from all generic words, or a keyword can have very few results but be heavily saturated, so the number of results can be deceiving.

Let me tell you in an easy and useful way.

Monthly searches for an easy keyword could be anywhere between: 3000 - 10,000. (On GWT)

On google search bar, results should be under 1 million. Even better to have half a million too.

See, less competition + less searches = Easy keyword/Niche to rank for.

    Hope this helps.

What you are saying is not true in some cases. Less than one million search results doesn't mean less competition. For example, keyword Wealthy Affiliate is also less than 1 mill but I can imagine countless WAers are trying to rank for that keyword. I also found Amazon product name keyword, a camera model, with more than 1 mill search result but when checked with SEO Quake, some websites on top ten of G for that keyword doesn't even have backlinks. Also, data from Google Keyword Planner doesn't necessarily give the idea on total monthly search. Some keywords related to product name or product launches won't return any data in GKP in the first month but I can imagine there could be thousands of search query per day based on that keyword.

Not to forget, if the first page of google shows some high Authority sites having your keyword in their domain names, then completely forget about it. If there are few, you can beat em' off. Usually, low search keywords/niches are low in competition too.

I don't know about other people buy I personally find GKP quiet better than the rest. For me, they always show better results.
