Are affiliate links backlinks?

Hey dear warriors,

Just a quick question.

When you generate a new affiliate link on Clickbank, clickbank gives you something like sdpofjpsdfj843408543pospojdsf.whatever04.hop.click bank.com, then you just copy paste that on your website and if you make a sale, you get a commission

Now that we've got that right. Let's say I'm a vendor. And affiliates put affiliate links for my products on their website - they have a good anchor text, but the link is not www.mywebsiteorsalespage.com it's www.aclickbanklinkthatredirectsthemtomywebsiteorsa lespage.com right?

So my question is - is this a backlink, does Google even register a link that looks like sdofjksjdflj93kj4.hop.clickbank? and how is it viewed - is it viewed as just a link from clickbank (page rank whatever?), or a link from that particular website, is it dofollow, nofollow - and in general, will my page rank be effected if I have a lot of affiliates that point toward me with links, or will I only get the traffic and the search engines will ignore the links?

Thanks to all that reply, from a struggling but ready to win internet marketer,

Jack

yes it is a backlink, and will pass some link juice, but whether it provides anchor text power is another question.

No it's not. I can find affiliate links ranking in serps. If they were seen as backlinks that wouldn't be possible.

I am not sure about the new clickback links.
But in case of original style clickbak hoplinks which you mentioned in example (CBid.example.hop.click bank.com), it won't be considered as a backlink to the root of your domain, not because of the anchor text but because the spiders who follow the link will end up with www.example.com/?hop=CBid But this will still be considered as a link to your site. You can see many www.example.com/?hop=CBid getting ranked on google which will eventually be omitted since they are duplicate content.

However if you have a system where your affiliate links will be redirected by 301 redirect, then you will get the full benefits of backlinks.
