What do I need to do to get the Result in SEO?

Over the past few months I've been learning about SEO, building back links and working on my content to make it more engaging.

I have someone helping on building the more general links and I have focused on contacting site owners directly to ask if they would like to exchange links.

I've only seen marginal improvement over the last 6 to 7 weeks and have check out the competition to see what they are doing. It appears they have less links and I want to know if I'm missing anything.

A breakout of what links I've been targeting:
Social Media
Video Sharing Sites
Social Bookmarking
Blog Comments
Business Listing
Classified Ads
Photo Sharing

    Social bookmarking links are worthless.

Classified ads are worthless for SEO. The ads usually expire in 30 days or less.

Social media is great for attracting traffic, but does not have a direct impact on links.

Also, as far as your competitors having fewer links, no backlink checker is 100% accurate. They might have far more links than you know of. The number of links is not what is important. What is important is the quality and the age of the links.

Social media gets you traffic but not SEO rankings. Google is supposedly moving towards taking social media signals into account for its ranking, but as of today, it's still moving towards that direction and there is no clear evidence yet that Google has done it. But logical deduction will tell us that they will move towards that direction.

Social bookmarking - not directly. The only way you can potentially get SEO boost from social bookmarking is by having your post e.g. go viral on Reddit and have many people link to it from relevant websites.

Blog comments - still works, but by itself, it's not sufficient to generate boosts in SEO results. (Also make sure only to get from relevant websites).

Business listing - yes it does help if you get it from local (if you're doing local SEO) and also listings from your niches on these business listing sites.

Classified ads - it's usually short so it's little to no long term effect on SEO.

Photo sharing - not sure how you intend to get SEO boost from photo sharing?

OP, you should pretty much scrap your current methods, and concentrate on getting valuable links by any means necessary. Beg, borrow, steal, buy. By "valuable" I mean "followed" links that sit on sites with a decent backlink profile. Preferably real sites, but artificial ones are better than nothing.

Not really. You can make a logical argument about Google not targeting social because it's fairly hard to get right, because they'd rely on someone else's data, and because it'd open new cans of worms.

However, they've clearly been interested in the social aspect, at least form their own point of view. Which is to sell targeted advertising, of course.

You do realize that the focus keyword thing is just a helper tool, right? You should talk about keywords, and not that silly feature that one SEO plugin happens to have.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.

Yes, that's exactly what it is.. a helper tool. And that's exactly why I mentioned it, to help someone who needs some guidance with SEO.

Interesting that you felt the need to pick that out of everything I wrote...

But it's actually a very helpful plugin, and I found it relevant to mention because it helps as a guidance system to keep your site structured and make sure your pages are being created around keywords. Which is basic SEO 101 for any site that wants to rank well.

Valuable links are only one part of a much bigger picture.

You seems to have started on the right footing but you need to do more.

First, Google ranking is not guaranteed and there are two many variables eg age of domain.

Even though link building seems to have greater impact in pushing your site up the SERP,you will need quality links.

What I have not seen you talk about is "editorial links" from quality content.

Get more quality links over a period of time and you will rank higher than your competitors for whatever keyword you are targeting.

SEO is always a long-term strategy, so please remember that first.

I still have long ways to go with my site, but it's finally getting ranked for highly competitive keywords in my niche, so things are working.. it took over a year though.

I won't say there aren't "tricks" to the trade now, but Google has washed a lot of that out with new algorithm updates.

Here are some of the main things they look for:

-Mobile Friendliness of your site (this is new and important). Check here: https://www.google.com/webmasters/to...bile-friendly/

-Quality Content (more on this later)

        -Keyword Optimization

-Site Optimization/Structure (do you have a 404 page, do you have an email catch-all, do you have a sitemap, do your pages link to each other)

        -Quality, Relevant Backlinks

        - Social Signals

So you're not far off in your strategy, but you're only looking at a small part of it. You need to really make sure your site is optimized the best it can be before worrying about the other things.

Quality content is the most important. You need to have multiple pages/posts, be updating almost daily, and be giving great and relevant content to your keyword-specific niche.

You want to make sure you are optimizing all your pages for focus keywords. If you don't already, get the Yoast SEO Plugin (free). And you want to make sure that your site is based around a center keyword, and your pages act like silos of longer-tail keywords pointing back in.

Then you want to do what you're doing- go share that content everywhere you can. Get the social signals, bookmarks, and backlinks. Build yourself in any relevant directories and get listed on as many web 2.0 websites as you can with your url.

Set up social profiles with your main url, and share content. And then use that to get traffic.

There's more to it than that- SEO is like a science. But that should get you started, and it's a decent amount of work too. From there you can keep optimizing and adding strategies, and stay up to date with Google changes.

Your idea of developing visibility is to nuke all existing on-page optimizations? Wow. Hopefully you're not doing any SEO projects.

Especially since your idea of "quality back link" is so perverse.

want quality links start getting them in the SERPs

gather a group of keywords then start looking at the serps especially the top ten and you will find all the quality links you need

if the linking opportunities rank in the top ten you bet Google loves them

I've been using them for some time and now and doing this has reduced the amount of links I've needed to out rank others because of the quality they represent

the other side to this is you get some of the traffic those top ten listings generate for ranking at the top

It is all about how you choose your keywords. and yes making good backlinks and posting good content is enough to get ranking but it takes time if you choose high competition keywords. Update your on page with sitemap and robots.txt.

Obviously the more unique content you write for your product description will always be better for your SEO efforts. However, keep the following things in mind:
Only write quality descriptive content that helps your customers make purchasing decisions.
Don’t copy content from other websites. The search engines will penalize you for doing this.
You may want to test what description word count helps with purchase conversion. Too much content might hurt.

I found Matthew Lee at SEO-zilla to be fantastic. I thin if you register on his site you get a free eBook that will probably help a lot. It certainly did for me and started pushing my traffic up in a matter of days
