Backlink BS - Are High PR Links Destroying My Site?

So, I've got this nice little site that been my baby since I started IM about 1/2 a year ago.

After ranking in the SERPS pretty consistently for a few months I decided I would buy a pack of high PR links and have someone else do the work for me.

I had checked and wrote down all the keywords I had ranked for previous to having this link pack done.

A few days after the pack was completed I saw all my rankings drop drastically. I thought this was just some google dance because of the new links, so I waited.

Its now been 13 days and my rankings have not gone back up.
Im concerned they never will.

This site was a small site to begin with so I'm worried google recognized how this small site with little activity suddenly started to get a bunch of high PR backlinks.

Has anyone else had this experience? Am I simply being impatient, maybe 13 days isn't long enough and its still just dancing as more of the backlink are discovered?

  • I think you are just getting re-evaluated. But I would also check to see if you have any other flaws on your site that could be dropping things as well.

Exactly. Build trust through age and natural link building and you'll escape that filter pretty quickly.

      Hi Joshua,

Sounds like a normal temporary fluctuation BUT I would only target ONE main Keyword phrase if I were you per relevant page on your site.

I know from experimenting with my own sites, when I have had a #1 spot stabilized for a certain term and then started backlinking that page for a different term, my #1 spot went into temporary freefall as new links were digested.

In short J, pick a page on your site and tie it to one specific keyword phrase and backlink it. Then pick a different page and backlink that one for a different term.

When you find a lucrative term, you should also go after Page 1 with several different Web properties that will (eventually) give you a strabglehold on Page 1 e.g. GoArticle, WF Blog, EZA, YT video, Metacafe video.

An added bonus of this method is that if your own site drops off Page 1 while links are digested by Google, some others will stay there.

Hope that helps and keep backlinking!
