Is this a black hat tactic?

Hey all,

I was able to generate some Semantic search queries from my analytics and I want to begin to answer them in answer sites like Quora or yahoo answers and refer them back to the site.

My question is.....

If the question is relevant to the page I am referring back to..would google still ding me for this?

I have a bunch of questions(keywords) that I want to use quora to answer as a way to generate more traffic.

What do you guys think? I want to keep the best practices of SEO and can see how this can be abused.

Thoughts?

Nothing wrong with doing that. Also I would find questions in your niche and try to give legitimate help to those people and then link to the solution. = Your site

Yes that is exactly what I will be doing. For example.. a question asked on Quora would be "Things to do in city"

Than I would answer their question briefly and refer them to the page I have "things to do in city"

The problem is I have 1000s of questions....How would that effect SEO? Would google see that as spamming?

      Thanks for the speedy response.

No problem with it. Even I work on Quora and YA for generating traffic. As long as you are answering on relevant question, it is ok.

Long time Quora user here, and I've tried garnering traffic from it and YA long ago - the effects were minimal, tbh. There's nothing wrong with that though.

Google wouldn't see it as spamming, but I will be careful if I were you: Quora is heavily moderated, and people who use it for SEO purposes are likely to find their accounts banned.

I also use Quora and it is very effective question answer website to get website traffic, use it and answer the relevant questions related to your website, but do not copy paste answer from web otherwise you will go into spam by Quora.

Nop, nothing wring with that at all. Quora is in fact a great way of getting tons of qualified traffic without risking the wrath of Google.

      Thanks guys,

Yes I see this as a long term strategy as I doubt it would drive exponential traffic to my site.

Too give you some background...I created a data set that breaks down search queries and turns them into questions. It is using Google analytics Search query report so those are the actual keywords that users type in search to find my site.

i.e - keyword = "new york" now would mean "things to do in new york" or "what should I see in new york" and so forth.

With this new data set I am still in the process of exploring how to use this as I feel it is very valuable piece of intel for marketers like ourselves.

I thought Quora would be a great place to start but am also open to exploring other channels.

      Thanks!

This is a good technique as long as you don't SPAM! Try to find relevant questions and try to add something useful for other members too!

Sounds like a smart strategy to me....providing you aren't setting up the questions yourself in Yahoo Answers or Quora? Is that your intention?

      Thanks guys,

No I will not be setting up questions myself, but that may not be a bad idea haha. Luckily for me alot of the questions asked are also on Quora.

From a business standpoint....would this task be scalable and worth investing employees time in?

As long as your links are legitimate and relevant this is absolutely fine.

Quora is heavily moderated so although Google won't have a problem with it, you'll have to be careful with what you're posting.

It's like taking 3 of the free mystery meat & cheese food samples at the grocery store. Nobody cares & it leaves a bad after taste in your mouth.

I will not be using it for rankings. I want to use it to gain more traffic to my site. I really do have honest intentions for using this as I would be making sure the questions on Quora are relevant to my site.

I can see how this can be abused. I just want to make sure that when Google indexes my site and see all theses no-follow links from Quora that it would have a negative effect on my SEO?

Anyone here get dinged for SEO because of this?

Not a problem. From experience, i once used yahoo answers to rank a keyword like "buy instagram followers" , a tough keyword indeed.

quora and yahoo answers are useless for SEO.

As far as blackhat, there is no such thing.

There is stuff that works, and stuff that doesn't. Period.

That aint gonna work for shinola.

It's nofollow links so it doesn't matter. It's not like you'll rank a page because of those links.
