Hi
My this blog is one year old and has like 20 posts on it. But it's not getting any visitors or ranking on Google. I don't know what I am doing wrong. Do I need to get more backlinks? I know on-page SEO and I have done that on my blog. Can somebody suggest me some off-page SEO checklist?

Your keywords are high competitive keywords. It is hard to rank these keyword on Google.

I think you need to use other methods to promote your site:

-Add more post with medium competitive keywords ( long tail keywords), it will give some small traffic.

    - Promote by Facebook, Twitter

    - Create good videos and ask people come to your site at the end. Promote on Youtube, Vimeo

    - Choose the forum ( blog) relate to your niche which allow signature (link) and add useful comments.

I would like to mention few issues which i have noticed in your website

    1. Main thing is selected keywords are very competitive. There are thousands of articles are in the net related to word press.

    2. Articles are less descriptive. word count around 300. Would like to recommend over 1500+ high descriptive articles with rich media.( Images,Sliders, Video )

    3. Your have selected very common topics of wordpress

When your are going to select some topic that one should be the best article in the net related to that topic.
it's means check the fist position of the google for that search query

Then identify the drawbacks of that article and improve the article as much as you can

Next check it's backlinks and find the related webmasters.
And promote your content via email outreach.

Do research on your posted blogs. Are they unique or just an information, which is present on thousands of websites over the internet?

IMO, as per a Blog/Information site, 20 posts in a year is less. Try to increase your post a bit as well as their quality.

If we look at "Transfer A Large WordPress Website To Another Server" this article you are actually ranking not to bad.. BUT wouldn't "wp migrate db tutorial" better fit? and there is a ton less competition. or how about "migrate wordpress db tutorial"

But here is the REAL question... why are you so concerned about your traffic? you are in no way monetizing any traffic you do get. As in nothing. 20 articles and 1 year later... what is the purpose of the site?

Agree with some of the comments above about the keyword competitiveness. Try to do up some research on other long tail keywords that can possibly bring a decent amount of organic traffic to your site. If you are unsure, you can always outsource an expert to do that.

The best way is to promote your blog on Facebook. This will surely increase the traffic to your website which in turn will improve your position in SERP.

I will tell you what you are doing wrong. You built a site and think that magically entitles you to traffic from Google, as if nobody else is trying to rank webpages too.

Your expectations are all screwed up.

And you have random internal links.

I'm pretty sure you're doing the exact same mistakes that you were doing couple of months ago. Here's the thread in case you forgot.

Your backlink situation at least is exactly as bad as it was back then. If you'd done something worthwhile you'd probably seen some development by now.

  • Have you thought about taking the time to go back and retrofit the existing content with new conversion opportunities?

Working to optimize previous posts might increase your visits better than trying to create a new post.

Something that worked for me was that I added links to other relevant, high-converting pages on the site, to keep people engaged.

Hello my friend, so, i do a little consultation on your website now, and the results are this:

So, you don't even ranked in Google yet. You have a 52 backlinks and all is nofollow, and for you information this is bad.

52 Backlinks nofollow and with pessim quality, Google don't like. You have a 2 reffering domains .com, with is good.

But you need do more if wanna be exposed on internet.

    - High Quality BackLinks (DoFollow and High Page Rank)
    - Articles Create and Submission
    - Indexers
    - Contextual Links To Your Site
    - Content
    - Social Bookmarks

And the list goes fair. I know do all this alone is very very difficulty, specially in begin.

I'm a SEO expert, but we can't do a free work for you, i'm sorry.

I answer any doubt for you.

    Hope answered your questions.

How is it not? He's clearly not worried too much about making the blog an authority on anything with just 20 posts in 1 year, so why would Google reward him?

I'm not saying "build it and they will come" Costner-style, but I am saying lack of effort on his part will beget lack of love on Google's part.

I'll disagree. There are plenty of topics a site could be an "authority" on in 20 posts. There are plenty of 8-20 page sites killing it in the SERPs.

I was not talking about my sites. I was just pointing out that there are plenty of great sites that rank just fine and are less than 20 pages.

Take a look through some of the sub-niches in insurance, legal topics, adult products, dentistry, etc. You can find sites of all sizes ranking just fine.

He could have added a post to his site every day for the past year and still be in the same position today.

Completely agreed although he posted the same things 2 months ago and asking same question again here. In the meantime he didnt do anything i guess and expecting to get ranking automatically. He might need a harry potter's wand...

              Mine.

Plus a bunch of others I've come across doing research for clients in the mortgage, insurance, home remodeling businesses.

Look on page 5 and 6 and 7 for some search terms. You find there sites with 50, or more, pages / posts.

From what I can see you're doing everything wrong!

Comments on here have already pointed to the quality and quantity of your content. 20 blogs in a year is just not enough to keep anyone interested in your site let alone the search engines.

As for a checklist, you could take a look at the SEO Starter Guide from MOZ.com.

As a starter for you though, try to sort these problems:
    • 404 errors (you have at least 4)
    • Multiple H1 tags on pretty much every page
    • Very few backlinks
    • very few internal links
    • Write a new blog at least every month and make it detailed (every week is better)
    • Post links to your new content on all social media platforms
    • Do your keyword research again and look for "long tail" opportunities
    • Seek out related blogs where you can make a reasonable comment (don't automate it!)

    Hope that helps

It's one thing to keep an audience interested, or to make your site or company seem "alive". That's something you may want to do.

However, you don't "keep search engines interested". It's an advanced algorithm, not some kind of sentient being that constantly needs new stuff to look at. It's pretty silly to assign human traits to computers.

As Mike F. pointed out you can very well rank with old articles, and even if you post new ones on the same topic they might not help that much.

Submit your posts to social bookmarking sites. Their is a list of such sites, just search them on Google. Submit only to a maximum of 3 bookmarking sites per day to avoid spam. Good luck.

Wrong. Social bookmarking sites won't give any effect on the ranking. Lots of sb sites will add nofollow tag to the links, so Google won't care any backlinks from these sites. Plus, these sites don't have article or content, so why should Google see anything from them?
      {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[10201976].message }}
  • Hi,

I had a look at your website, its good but the keywords that you have used are very competitive. With these keywords it is very difficult to rank higher, though no impossible. Since you have said that you are aware about the on page SEO and have done it. I think where you are going wrong is not doing Off Page SEO. There are a few techniques that i have listed below, please follow these for off-page SEO and you will gradually rank up on the search engines,

    1. Directory Submission
    2. Social Bookmarking
    3. Blogging
    4. Image Sharing
    5. Business Listing
    6. Classified Ads Submission
    7. Promote your website using the social media like Facebook. Linkedin, Twitter.

Along with on page SEO that you have been doing, I think if you follow these techniques of off page SEO, you would see yourself very soon on the search engines.

    All the very best.
