Was Go Daddy's website builder a terrible choice in terms of search engine optimization?

I'm trying to break into a career as a freelance writer/marketer.

At the beginning of this endeavor, I checked out WordPress and Weebly. I have no coding skill and learning coding is out of the question. I really wasn't a big fan of either of them even though they are tremendously popular.

I have always heard that WordPress is really good in terms of search engine optimization. I have done a little bit of research and it seems that Go Daddy is not so good. Does the content management system really make a tremendous difference? From what I have learned so far it seems that at its heart, good search engine optimization is about content and the design of each webpage.

Freelance writing/marketing is a tremendously competitive environment. Realistically it would probably take me a lot of work to rank on page one or two of Google. However, I still want to try and learn it for my own experience. I have never done it before. It seems like a great skill to have for someone in marketing.

I suppose my ultimate question is, will search engine optimization be a complete waste of time for me in regards to my website?

Thank you in advance for the advice.

"however it is basically what a WordPress website hosted with regular hosting services gives you, too, except WordPress is nowhere near as limiting. Here is my advice to all small business owners – don’t get intimidated by how “technically demanding” it is to setup a WordPress website and “undersell” your online presence to a Website Builder website. Even if it is a tiny bit more complex to setup and maintain a WordPress site, even if you have to pay someone a few hundred dollars to do so (which is a completely reasonable price for the task), it is worth it in the long run. GoDaddy’s Website Builder is too limiting SEO-, design and development-wise even for the most modest clients."

GoDaddy's website builder is a poor choice for anything irregardless of SEO, but yes especially for SEO.

On the other hand, and take no offense to this, the chance of you ranking for any worthwhile freelance writing related keywords is likely slim to none. So there is that.

    My advice is forget SEO.

You're a writer, SEOs are looking for writers. Partner up with SEOs & let them drive traffic to you.

Bottom line all that matters is sales.

    Thanks for the advice guys.

I was kind of thinking SEO was not a worthwhile pursuit for my freelancing website. However, there are a lot of SeO writing jobs. So, it's a skill I would like to learn as it may be valuable in the future. I was thinking my own website would be a good way to do that.

I had always heard that word press was a good choice. But, I found that I just could not make the WordPress page look the way I wanted to. Everybody says it's fairly easy. I think I must have missed something. Perhaps, if I ever need another webpage I will go in a different direction.

Just out of curiosity, is Weebly a good choice for a CMS system? Again, I had problems making it the way I wanted to.
