Buying social signals

Hello

Can buying social signals get your website penalised ?

Lots of people recommend fivver gigs etc for social signals..just wondering weather to do it or not

obviously fivverr is crap for backlinks but everyone recommends it to get social signals

anyone tried it?

    The so-called social signals have very little to do with SEO. There's a few internet marketing industry figures who subscribe to this hypothesis, but there seems to be no good data to support it. There's also a bunch of snake oil salesmen who'd be really happy to sell you any push-button spam product they can. I don't get why you'd name this small group of hustlers and conmen "Everyone", but I digress...

    If you're spamming a website, and it doesn't really affect Google, why would Google care about it? However, it's possible that the social media site that you're soiling will kick you out.

      I think theres a social signal case study on mathew woodward where he ranks a site by simply sending social signals to it (not first page obviously) however it shows google take social signals into account..I could be wrong I read it couple of months ago if I find it ill post it

        I could not find that either. At least a guy with the same name claims that tweets with a URL rank a page for some reason he doesn't specify. Magic, perhaps?

        There's a bloke from Stone Temple consulting who pretty much got the opposite result back in 2013.

        The problem with these studies is that there's no such thing as ranking a site by one method only. If you get it to rank to some extend it's likely that someone else or a bot is going to link your site. If you're blasting social signals to real live audience it's likely that some of those people link to your site. And often these people are doing a link bait for their own blog in any case which potentially breaks the whole experiment.

    It is unlikely that will happen to you.

    However, you might want to note (as mentioned above) there is also no tangible evidence (at least on a very effective and large scale way) that social signals will push your website ranking quickly up Google search engine.
