Hi guys,

i just had found some many keywords, with amazon on #1 in google search results.

Do you think it would be easy for me (noob in seo and everything) to get a position over amazon? In other thread i had read some people who said yes, its easy. But i cant believe it.

Thanks for your ideas

Sure, piece of cake. As long as the keywords aren't amazon or something Just build the right links, paying attention to link velocity and relevancy.

I think it is possible but may take some time. You will have to optimize your website properly and get a ton of "high PR", "Relevant" backlinks to your website.

Make sure also that you have optimized your site for the keyphrase too. If not then its going to make your job harder for no real reason at all.

Yes however not all of those high pr backlinks need to be relevent, relevent backlinks are great but not always easy to get so you will have to get some more general authority backlinks such as the high pr ones as well as maybe look at .edu and .gov backlinks for a quick boost too.

I have many small niche product websites that outrank Amazon for the main product keyword. My only link building has been bookmarking the pages to Digg, Propeller and a 2-3 others, as well as submitting a few articles to EZA and 3-4 other directories. Believe it...you can outrank Amazon, Nextag and others.

      Hi Shutz,

      Amazon pages are DEFINITELY beatable.

Ironically, Amazon pages respond really well to backlinking themselves (if you have a product there) but are pretty easy to beat because virtually nobody is backlinking a specific product page there (and aff link URL Amazon pages aren't recognized by Google in my experience).

If you're serious about beating it:

[1] Zero in on ONE keyword phrase

[2] Go after it with SEVERAL backlinked Web properties all targeted on that one phrase:

      - Your site INNER page only with that keyword title and only that anchor text;

      - an Ezine article (Keyword-titled like all these),

      - a GoArticle,

      - a YouTube video,

      - a Warrior Forum blog post (these rank quite well and are strangely ignored by a lot of IMers),

      - a Metacafe video (Google likes these) and

      - (though I'm yet to try these) a Scribd page.

Not only will you eventually beat Amazon with one (or more) sites, you will get a stranglehold on that key term on Google Page 1.

      Cool, huh?

[3] Backlink all of these and monitor them in Rank Checker (free) BUT be patient.

      Any backlinking campaign takes time.

      Cheers

Jep, it seems really to take time :-)

I started a week ago with a GoArticle and some german article-directory submissions. My site is fully indexed, but google didn't found any backlinks until yet. But my hope will go on, becouse its a keyword with around 90k exact searches a month :-).

You will have to wait a lot longer for those kind of results.Be patient and keep link building. You will prevail.

If I do keyword research and Amazon is ranked 1, I jump on that keyword because more often than not it means that I can rank well very easily.

The only SEO that the Amazon page (normally) has is that the main domain is an authoritative site. With good onpage optimization and some backlinks to the page you want to rank you should be able to outrank Amazon.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[1064619].message }}
  • No I don't think it would be easy. That is reality. Is it possible. Obviously it is. What can you do? That really is up to you.

That's the reality so what is you want to hear?

Outranking Amazon means having a site that people in search engines are willing to value more than theirs. You do that the same way everyone else does. You build traffic with quality content and backlinks that actually drive traffic.

Alright, it seems to be working.
For one bad keyword, with only ~50 searches a month, i'm already behind a Amazon Link, on #2. And this is just a sub-site, with no backlinks. So i'm going to try to get my page for my main keyword with ~90k Searches a Month on Top of page one.

Quit whilst your already behind, word to the wise - unless your name is david viney or bruce clay you have not got a hope in hell of ranking higher than a same keyword.

Dont be fooled by people saying that it is possible - do a mathmatical thought

If you saw someone on this forum saying it was possible - what makes you think they would reply to you? Naturally wouldnt they want to pm you asking for those keywords and then trying to rank in it themselves - Just imagine ranking for something higher that amazon that was frequently searched for and you were able to sell the product aswell

Theirs no chance - you would have to be play.com or etc

Add my name to the list: Brian Kindsvater ... luv to see Amazon in the #1 spot as it is easy to beat.

Good thing my playground is earth and not h.e. double hockey sticks.

If you don't want to compete against Amazon that indicates you don't want to compete against anyone. Frankly, you might as well give up on affiliate marketing.

Affiliate marketing is not only the key

And for a noob in seo i would advise this as not really a clever thing to go after - as you ll will drain more energy than needed.

Relatively play with something more medium to understand the world of seo, as to what little things can have a small impact and what thngs can have a big impact.

To rank higher than amazon for a day - what would be the point, its all about ranking higher and sustaining that rank or your link looking more desirable

I have a domain I registered on July 21st - less than one month ago. For the keyword I'm targeting I have the #1 and #2 spots on Google - ahead of Amazon.com.

I've been #1 since about 2 weeks after the domain was registered and I created some content and used my SEO techniques.

I'm also #1 on Yahoo and #1 on Bing.

Beating Amazon is easy and can quickly be done. Obviously, "easy" and "quickly" can depend on the keyword.

Shutz, don't let anyone get you down and tell you not to compete against Amazon. Just because someone new to forum can't do it doesn't mean other Warriors are so limited. At least you're in the right place to get some helpful advice - you've got a lot of forum reading to do.

This is the kind of bad information based on nothing at all that put off people who don't know better.

Where did you get that garbage from?

Amazon is very easy to beat for specific products other than top sellers. Whenever I see Amazon, Bizrate, etc., in the top spots, I jump on it. Often they have NO backlinks other than in-domain.

And all that other nonsense? Jeez...

In my eyes it is really easy to outrank amazon. Yesterday evening i registered a keyword-domain. I put on a wordpress with all-in-seo plugin. Then i wrote 4 pages with around 100 words of content and some links to amazon.

Today, 5 Hours ago i started with backlinking from some bookmarking sites (around 10-15) and used pingler.com to ping some sites.

Now i googled for my keyword, and found me on position #10. I think, with some backlinks more, it would be easy to get on #1 and catch some traffic to my site (5.400 searches/month).

When i'm there, I'll try whats best. Amazon affiliate or google adsense (just 0,75 € / click).

You cant outrank Amazon.com but you can outrank the internal pages: Amazon.com/catagory/sub catagory you have to have the keyword in the domain as well.

sure its possible to outrank amazon - you sometimes not even need keywordheavy backlinks to your page but a proper onpage keyworddensity together with related keywords helps alot.
keep in mind, that affiliate sales via az may be more difficult nowadays as az has become a household name and more and more people visit directly than going via an affiliate site (at least this is what I recognized over the last 6 years)

Can this same logic be applied to a Youtube listings?

I have found a set of keywords that normally would look relatively easy to rank highly for but the top 2-3 spots are taken by youtube or other video sites. Their title and description on the google listing is fairly relevant and the onpage text is also relevant, but these pages have zero backlinks.

If I create sites that have basic seo and backlinking, should I be able to outrank these pages?

      Thanks for your answers.

It can be easy If our domain and your title include your main keyword and by doing so with few backlinks you can beat the amazon. If your keyword is not in your domain and title then you have to build backlinks on a consistent basis for several months to defeat amazon.
