Site placement with G question.

Hi to all,

I have a website that was launched approx 2 weeks ago using xsitepro2. The URL is made up from the one keyword I am targeting. I have typed the URL into google to seach for the site and it is indexed but I cannot find the site at all when I search using the keyword itself.

I submitted the site to a couple social bookmark sites last night. One of those, Digg, has been indexed and is already showing on page 1 when I searched for the keyword today on google.

My puzzlement is I don't know why my site is not to be found when doing a manual search. I have done a small amount of other backlinking prior inc forum posts and article submissions.

There are only 27,000 competing sites for the exact keyword. Is the above normal 'cause the dreaded sandbox word is springing into my mind but really hope it isn't.

Thanks,

John.

Yes, the same thing has happened to me once.

When you make a website you should just submit it to Google and not start linking to it immediately even before it has been accepted by Google.

Once Google has indexed your website, then you start building links for that website.

This is just my personal advice and could be argued. But I believe I am right.

I am unsure whether it has to do with how I first launched the site. I first installed a WP theme onto it with my host and then took it down because I wasn't comfortable with WP and so then used an xsitepro template instead. Google first indexed the site when it was a WP site so maybe this has something to do with it. Who knows.

    Hi John,

The number of "competing sites" is no guarantee that it will be easy to rank for your keyword. You'll never see much traffic unless you can get your page listed in the top 20 positions. You should look at those top listings to determine if you can outperform their optimization effort.

As far as the "dreaded sandbox" is concerned, it is a built in factor in the algorithm that ranks new pages and links lower because they have not been around long enough to have earned trust. There is nothing you can do to cause or avoid the sandbox effect, it is applied equally to all pages.

P.S. If the site in question is the one in your signature, it points to a parked page. That could be a problem.

You should submit your site to all of the major search engines manually whilst also building links to the site from the quality sites (social bookmarking sites and article directories) then you should be indexed in no time.

No, it's not the site in my signature, that site is no longer in use and which I will remove. The first page of competing sites have a couple of PR3 and some article directory entries. I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens. I'll add some more content and hope it might make a difference.

        Hi JWT,

A lot of your concern is unnecessary.

Some sites respond faster than others to backlinking so just be patient AND:

[1] monitor your site's progress in Rank Checker
[2] backlink hard to ONE inner page on your site (preferably titled with your keyword phrase)
        [3] be persistent and patient.

I've had sites sitting outside the top 200 for over 2 months despite aggressive backlinking and then one day, they reached a 'tipping point' and have since stayed in the top 3 positions on Google.

I don't know about that program you are using but ranking in Google is a game of determined 'marathon running'. Just imagine where you would like that site to be in 3/6/12 months and hang in there.

Forget about the sandbox BUT do have several sites (and TYPES of sites) going at once in your backlinking campaigns so that you aren't too reliant on just one site.

        Hope that helps bro.

Sometimes your website gets indexed in no time and sometimes you have to wait 3 months .... or more. Google works in strange ways. But I believe that If you are working hard, have unique and quality content there's nothing to worry about.

Thanks Terry and Jasp. I'll concentrate on backlinking and adding content weekly and see how it goes. I'm focusing on using the method given by George Brown from this forum using Sniper sites but with Xsitepro instead of Wordpress.

Terry, thanks for the link for the Rank Checker tool but you have to have Firefox installed first. I've never really considered Firefox (have IE now) but am now thinking on it after reading a few sites about it. Do you have any experience with it or use it now? I have tried a couple of rank checker tools which have given results stating that my site isn't in the top 100.

      John.
