After taking a 5 year break, I feel like I am starting all over again. The one thing that caught my eye was hearing about a new change to Google and keywords. I am completely confused about this change. I want to just jump in and start doing keyword research but I don't want to waste my time if there is another method being used now.

i think keywords still important now. even we planned our traffic methode not from search engine or SEO, we still need to do little research keyword.
i mean... let's assumed that we'll build a site about make money online. i've planned traffic methode just using social media, video marketing, forum marketing.
if we do research our keyword... actually our visitors will come from social media, video marketing, forum marketing even from search engine as a traffic bonuses.
keyword is when people search what they need to solve their problem

Without keywords you would not know what to market, who to market to and how to market to the people you chose to market to. Does that make any sense. I hope so since you are already familiar with the concept. Yes, there is a new keyword tool from google and it is not so different from the old one. Still give most of the statistic the old one used to give. You will figure it fast when you play around with it. Welcome back hope this time you have come to stay.

I think it is still important because that is the language that your audience uses. You might be saying the same thing as them but if you dont use their language it will be hard for them to find you in the search engines.

The answer is both yes and no.

On one hand, people can't find you without keywords. Google can't rank you either. So if you're trying to rank for "Best Dentist in Chicago", then you're going to have to use the phrase on a few of your pages. There's no way around that.

On the other hand, keyword density is all but dead. If I was writing an article on the best dentist in Chicago, I'd use the main key-phrase once in the title and once early in the first paragraph. Then I'd never use it again, and focus solely on writing great quality that people would actually enjoy reading. I'd format the page nicely and talk about what to do when you have a bad toothache on the weekend, how to tell if you need emergency treatment, tips to get your teeth whiter naturally and other fluffy content that delivers actual value.

The on-page metrics (# of visitors, time on page, # of pages visited, etc) will determine how well your main keywords rank...so the focus is purely on quality in today's SEO. I hope that helps.

Keywords are important in my opinion, because you need to research the competition and write around a certain topic. I think keywords help you to focus your research and attention. However, Google isn't dealing with key phrases, but semantically parsing the articles and trying to derive the intended meaning of both the author and the search user.

This leads to the phenomenon that you often see: strong sites that touch the topic rank for searches when even when they're not actually using the keyword in the search box.

No, those aren't ranking factors. And they can't be. Google Analytics is very widely used, but it's very far from being ubiquitous. They haven't got a way to track those metrics on most sites.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.

Yeah, they are still important. We use keywords to help us find our audiences (bring traffic to our sites). It doesn't matter if we are trying to get traffic via the search engines or using social media sites. Nowadays, it's also really important that you have stuff on your own site (your own domain and hosting). A number of free sites that used to be popular for getting traffic (i.e. article directories, Squidoo) are a thing of the past.

  • Keywords will always be important but just be aware of changes to how people actually search for stuff online, i.e. social media, mobile, etc. because Google pays much more attention to these than they have in the past. You might also want to look into semantic keyword research as well. This is when search engines like Google try to determine what a user means when they type in certain words and phrases. Are users thinking about location when they type in a specific keyword or are they thinking about a specific brand? These are the kind of things you have to figure out when doing keyword research nowadays. Your research should be based on what people are actually typing in and looking for, not just on how much search volume some keyword got in the past. Basically, you should now always be trying to improve the user experience for people and not rely solely on hard search engine data when you are doing your research. For example, maybe Google got it wrong on a particular meaning of a keyword you are wanting to use? Maybe they did not have the relationship of keywords you are trying to convey? They are not always right, so its up to you to make sure the correct meaning is represented so that Google will eventually add that to its database as well. All this being said, none of it is anything new.

Keyword research is important but today searcher intent is key - the real reasons behind the search term. Google attempts to match that intent based on search data, click data, and heuristics, and then serves richer (and hopefully more relevant) intent-based results.

Most people have one or more of these four aims when searching:
      • Informational
      • Research
      • Purchase
      • Navigational

    Hey there.

    Keywords are still relevant

As long as people are still typing things into Google, knowing what keywords to target should continue to be a top priority.

I think you're confusing 'keywords' and 'backlinks'.

Simply put without keywords there will be no Google...

yes keywords are important in seo but using lots of keywords doesn't works.

Google has already made it clear that they do not consider meta keywords when selecting keywords, and this makes sense because many bloggers who are new to blogging or article writing add lots of keywords in their posts.

Definitely keywords are still very important. Knowing the keywords your trying to rank gives you the idea on your market and the keyword competition. For example, long tail keywords are less common and draws fewer visitors but often pull more quality visitors leading to more conversions than ordinary keyword.
