For those who HAVE experience with citation listings:

1. How long does it usually take on average for citation listings to appear in search results? I notice only a few are popping up in search results (first 2 pages): YellowPages, Manta, and Yelp. Why no other listings showing up?

2. If you go into a listing, for example, YellowPages....what determines what business shows up at the top of the list? Why doesn't a specific business show up at position 12, not at position 3 or 1?

3. I know the answer to this one but want to know what others think. Why does Yahoo and Bing show my website in rank #1 when I search for my brand, then it shows my YellowPage listing below it, but on Google, it does now. How does Google and Yahoo and Bing differentiate from each other?

    1. Maybe Google is taking their time, or maybe they don't consider those other pages that important for the search query. After all, there's already a few similar strong sites for the same result. It doesn't help the user if there's just a ton of Yelp clones for every query.

    2. Usually money.

    3. I'm not sure why you're asking if you know the answers, or why you mention Yahoo. Two different algorithms, and one that's years ahead of the other. It could be just differences in algorithms, or Microsoft preferring AT&T's site for corporate reasons (if YP.com is the one you're talking about).

Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

    What's your excuse?
