Expired domain

I have a question related to the expired domain. Lets say that the site before getting expired receive 10k per month and the traffic is due to different sources (Keyword, backlinks, others....) lets say the site is loseweightfast.com, so some visitors when they type lose weight fast, the site will pop up in the searches but when the site expire and someone buy it late won't the site pop up again when someone types lose weight fast? because that means that one of the traffic sources is lost?
I suggest two probabilities, if the one who buy it upload a site on it, the site will pop up again the searches when someone types the keyword, the other probability if he does, 301 redirect, will the site still pop up when someone type the keyword?
