Likely SEO effects for a url rewrite

Hi all..
I have a website that consists largely of dynamic php pages. I also have some backlinks that point to a couple of these dynamic pages and am starting to rank for a couple of keywords.
What I would like to do is make the url more friendly like www.mysite.org/index.php?page=mypage to www.mysite.org/mypage. I know how to do this but before I do I also want to consider any possible negative SEO effects and if their are any how to counter them.
I can easily redirect the old backlink url's to the new url's so the links will not be broken. I can also get google to not show the old url's .. but what other potential SEO pitfalls are their?
