404 errors are meaningless if they are not your money pages.

Many idiotic CMS like WP, will generate nonsense pages via some plugin
or other such rot or bloat. If your site is generating that crap, ditch it
or fix it. It does use resources.

Webmasters just freak out about 404 errors.

You cannot prevent 404 errors. Humans still surf the net.

Everyone should know that you can lessen them, but never
      eradicate them.

Its just like a maintenance for the site, 404 error pages, its better to lessen these errors to promote great user experience within the website.

    Wonderful answer there above.

The fact is that you can eradicate 404 not found errors.

Simply 301 redirect them to a custom 404 error page or simply to any other page that benefits your website business idea.

In fact, you can cash a lot from 404 errors if you do 301 redirect.

You cannot eradicate them. I could go to your website, if I knew
it, and give as many as I could type in for as long as I felt like it.

You can almost eliminate them webmaster tools. But even then,
the internet is not perfect. There are blips and burps. Your site
and pages are not 100% up from 100% of the world.

You have to know when a blip is a blip.

404 errors as described above by the OP, don't matter. Period.

Webmasters just freak out about errors. A product of not
knowing how the internet works. They buy a domain, install
wordpress, and BOOM! Instant webmaster. But, not really.

Oh just in case.....301 has nothing to do with registering a 404 error.
      A 404 error is a 404 error is a 404 error is a 404 error...

Login to your Google webmasters and click the tab on the left with says Crawl and then click crawl errors. You will find a list of URLs with their response code, generally you will see the response code 404. Click on any of the listed URL and you will get a pop up window. Click on the linked from tab. It’s very important to see from where all your URL is linked. If it’s an internal link coming from your website then you can fix or delete them. If they are coming from an external site then you need to take care of your errors and rectify them.

Retry the web page by pressing F5, clicking the refresh/reload button, or trying the URL from the address bar again.
The 404 Not Found error might appear for several reasons even though no real issue exists, so sometimes a simple refresh will often load the page you were looking for.

Fix 404 error by redirecting this link to homepage. You can fix by adding 404 error code in your website directory then all 404 links will be redirected to your homepage.
