There are many keyword research tool. But I think, 'Keyword Tool' is the best. It is the alternative to Google Keyword Planner and Ubersuggest. It generates more than 750 suggestions for each keyword. It is also a free tool.

I start with a broad keyword, niche it down with UberSuggest.org tool, and follow up with Google Keyword Planner. That's all. And for spying on competitors, I primarily use SEMRush.

    That's all

I've used so many different keyword tools and the best one I have found is SECockpit. Keyword research is the most important part of any SEO campaign so paying the fee doesn't phase me. A good keyword research session ahead of launching a campaign can take a few days if done properly.

SECockpit allows you to see data from Google Keyword Tool, Google Suggested Searches, Google related searches and you can put measures in place to limit the poor keywords. You might want to eliminate anything in a certain country or city, anything with less that 50 searches a month, only show closely related keywords etc. You can then click on each keyword and it will give you the top 10 competitors of each keyword and a bunch of metrics from Moz which gives you an indicative idea of how tough the competition is.

I managed to drop my Keyword Research time down to 25% of what is used to be with this tool.
