Alt-text/Titles for images

Hello

I have a photography website and I am floundering a bit since relocating. I was on page 1 of google for various search terms in my previous target area, now I am on page 3 at best :/ It has only been a few weeks since the changeover but I was hoping for a better return as I assume my site has decent authority etc as it was on page 1 in the first place (of course, I could be miles away from the mark here)

Anyhoo.. I was wondering. When I am using alt text/titles etc (things like: Portfolio shot for wedding photographer in Aberdeen) should I try and make them all unique or duplicate?

Or am I using them wrong altogether?!

Thanks all for your help and reading my (possibly) mindless prattle!

Matt

Alt-text shows up as plain text on the Google Cache (text version), so, make the alt-text unique just the same as If it's regular text on the webpage.

Just know that backlinks pointing directly at the image URL is the strongest ranking factor for images, assuming you're trying to rank images.

I am not really trying to rank my images as such.... is that a mistake? I literally only want people to find me for wedding photography within a certain area.

Do the images only effect image rank search then? Should I just concentrate on the text within my site?

Backlinks is where I struggle, but I think I am getting there.

    Thanks again

You'll be better off ranking the page because Google forces traffic through a series of Google Image pages/links before traffic ever reaches your money page (If traffic doesn't bail from the search pages first).

If you rank a webpage traffic is only clicking a single link (SERP link/title).

Image alt-text can show up in a SERP description If you remove the meta description tag in your money page HTML source code, so, Google is without a doubt looking at image alt-text. Assumes your image alt-text is relevant to the search query on the SERPs.

You don't have to rank an image in order to use image alt-text for on-page optimization. Just don't build any internal/external links to the image URL & the image won't junk up the text SERPs which will help increase CTR on a ranked money page.

I'm going to be honest with you..... that really confused me!! I suppose that's why I am a photographer, not an SEO speciailist!

Thank you for the help though, I will try and muddle through and work out what you are saying and then put it into action!!

        Thanks again, really is appreciated.

I tried to explain in detail, lol.

You need to learn these things If you expect to rank pages for anything remotely competitive in the SERPs.

I'm looking at the text version of your Home page, the page isn't too bad but you could still tweak some things like:
          1. Delete the text that says Main menu (<h3>) in your header.
          2. Remove the <h1> from the Welcome text. I guess you're not interested in ranking for the keyword welcome.
          3. Remove the web developer footer backlink from the lower right side of the Home page. That's most likely a site wide footer link & located in the Wordpress footer.php theme file.

Yukon, you are a star! I have changed the things that you mentioned. Really very helpful....

I will keep learning as much as I can so I am not here asking silly questions!
