Ranking Multiple Sites in same niche

Hey all

Need some advice on something. I work as an SEO for a large brand. We recently purchased a new website. We already had a website in the same industry.
For example website1.com we owned for several years and is based on a forum.
Website2.com we just bought and is a content website i.e. 10 Best Long Hairstyles.

Alot of the time the two websites rank for the same keywords. i.e. "Best long hairstyles"

My question is if we change the WhoIs information to the new company will Google drop the rankings of website2 or 1 so they get more diversity in search results?

Been doing some hunting around but the best I can find is here:
5 Website Changes That Will Hurt Your SEO | SEW
https://www.seroundtable.com/archives/018921.html

but they dont say anything about when you are ranking for similar keywords.

Thanks!

Whois has nothing to do with ranking, if you want to rank just one site make a 301 from the site you dont want to rank to the new one, it does not make any sense to me, but if that is what you want go ahead.

The two websites must be kept. One is a forum which is doing well and one is a content site which is doing well. So would Google stop both websites from ranking on page 1 for a keyword?

Are you for real? What the frick are you offering SEO services?

You are clueless, so you go around, trying to slum up some help?

    Fire yourself. Now.

I can't figure out why seo-wannabes continue to come here, and
broadcast to the world that they are friggin clueless.

whois? You have got to be kidding. You cannot...CANNOT be serious.

Oh, but you are! And that, is sad. So sad, it's not even laughable sad.

Here I thought the question was from a noobie, asking about opening
up multiple sites for the same niche. I was going to say that every big
site, from amazon to ebay, have tons of sites...same "niche," if you
will, funneling traffic, getting links, linking up, etc.....

    But, no.

You have a fan club. Wooo! Go Paul! If this was "pauled" I feel sorry for you.

To be clear this was a sense check. I have worked on many sites which are under the same WhoIs and rank for the same keywords. The reason I asked was because the company did something similar last year and one of the sites visibility dropped by a third (obviously it could have been something else). I was asking for an intelligent response saying nothing to worry about, not some yobs two cents referring to ebay and amazon.

But you do, yet you don't explain.

Usually, things that make sense but that nobody understands are things that don't make sense.

TO OP: the other site, the one that dropped in searches, it was something else. Nothing wrong with having 2 sites with multiple pages competing for the same keyword. If you win, you win. If you lose, you win.

my advice would be to create alot of good content so google puts you somewhere on page 2-3 then place social icons on your site and hope you reach page 1...my websites AudioBuy Australia , AudioBuy HongKong and BestPriceAudio are struggling to gain exposure - are there any SEO gurus out there willing to offer some sound advice?

Google SEO is a tricky business , and Google have done a good job of keeping us all in the dark to what gets a good ranking. Hmm.
