A 301 redirect is a server-side redirect designed to help users and search engines find content that has moved to a new URL permanently. These redirects pass between 90-99% of the link juice to the redirected page.

A canonical page is the preferred version of a set of pages with similar content. The rel=canonical tag is a way to tell Google that one URL is the same as another URL for search.

When you use 301 redirect, you show to Google that current page it's permanently moved to another url.

Canonical is used to prevent penalties by Google for duplicate content. When you use it, the current page exists but shows to google that is "copy" of another "master page".

Canonical is a tag that shows web page authority to avoid duplication content or content stealing and 301 redirect is designed to help or guide google bot that specific urls address has been changed and old url address has been removed.

301 Redirect is best for website redirect purpose. canonical tags use for duplicate content issue.
