Conversion tracking for a locksmith site

Hi there. I need some assistance on how I can do conversion tracking.

I have a general idea on how to do conversion tracking when you have sign up forms.

My question is if you have a locksmith website what would you do conversion tracking on?

Most people who search for a locksmith just call the first number they see because it is usually an emergency.

I would like some suggestions please.

Are you trying to track phone calls or leads?

If you want to track calls I would recommend using Callfire. Local #'s are $2/mo. and you can log and record all phone calls.

Now, for website tracking -- like for Facebook Ads or Adwords it's going to take a bit more work. I can tell you right now that you are on the right track. Data is critical to online marketing and having the proper setup can save you tons of money in wasted ad costs + you get incredible insight into your audience when you do things the right way.

Here are some BASIC steps you would want to do to track conversions on a form.

You need to have the page your form is on and you need to create a second page that is blocked by search engines using robots.txt. This will be your thank you page. Anyone redirected to this page becomes a "conversion".

    1. Install Google Tag Manager.
    2. Add the snippet to your website and publish the container.
    3. Create a Universal Analytics tag in Tag Manager by entering your Analytics ID and publish to all pages.
    4. Create a Facebook ad account using Facebook's Business Manager.
    5. Link to your Facebook page and then go to Tools > Audiences > Create Audience > Website Traffic
    6. Add that snippet of code to Google Tag Manager for all pages.

Now you will be able to remarket to anyone that has visited your website in the past 30 days on Facebook. You can slice and dice these audiences any way you want, including page-level targeting.

Now create another audience the same way, but this time make sure you select "People who visit specific web pages" and add the url to your thank you page. Next, set the time duration for 180 days.

This way when you run ads on Facebook you will not show ads to people who have already converted.

    7. Create Facebook Conversion pixel. Go to Tools > Pixels > Conversion Tracking Pixel tab and create the pixel. 'Leads' would probably be the best choice for your business.

    8. Take this pixel and create a new tag in Google Tag Manager and set the tag to ONLY fire on your thank you page. Publish the new container when you are done.

    9. Now log into Google Analytics and go to the Admin tab on top.

    10. Go to View Settings > Goals and Create a New Goal

    11. Select Custom and name this goal what you want. You can call it Leads.

    12. Select Destination and then enter the URL of your thank you page. Save and verify the goal.

Afterwards, when you login to Analytics you can go to Conversions > Goals > Overview and see how many conversions you are getting and where they are coming from.

You can go WAY more in-depth with G.A., tag manager and custom audiences. I regularly set all this up for businesses, so if you have any more specific questions send me a message.

    Best,
    Rob

Tank you for the awesome advice. I use contact form 7 on the site so I will need to ad some code to make contact form 7 redirect to the thank you page.

The phone conversion trackin is the problem for sure (:, I face it too, the only way of doing that is asking people how did they found us. If they watch your website on mobile you could make a hyperlink which will trigger a phone call so you could check that traffic in google analytics, I have this implemented on my website and I can easily check how many times, and when, and who clicked the "tel" URL on my website. But it`s the case of mobile traffic only. For normal traffic there is no method cos people always will enter your number on their mobile manually.

How did you do this? We have a WordPress website and I want to know if we could implement it there. Our site is very mobile responsive and most people who search for a locksmith when they are locked out of their home or car search with their mobiles anyway. This would work great for us. Could you please give more details?

I have an idea for the phone call tracking.

    1. Get a dedicated phone and phone number for the website
    2. Make a call log book with date, time, name, adress and job need to be done
    3. Only put the dedicated phone's number on the website
    4. Hire some one to answer the calls and log them

This is the manual way of doing it. There are companies that track phone calls through a script on your website which displays a unique number for each visitor. The thing is they charge ridiculous fees or they dont support my country.
