If you use low quality social bookmarking websites that has only short duration of time this will end up to link scheming and Google will raise a red flag on your site which signifies penalization.

According to me social bookmarking site are very help full to getting high rank in SERP as visitors use to save important link on social bookmarking site , a website which rank high in SERP will get more visitors. Secondly on social bookmarking site if visitors found your website link informative from there also, you will get visitor.

According to me they're not. Usually you're not getting a link on any high-PR page, and often the links are nofollow.

It used to be a method of getting traffic (back in early age of SEO), but now, social bookmarking has a very less (to none) impact of search rankings.

Yes, you may get traffic from social bookmarking sites but mostly the traffic won't be targeted or of quality.

From my experience, social bookmarks works for short term traffic. You might see spike in traffic that suddenly dies down.

In the question of getting traffic Social bookmarking is the best way to generate it. So my suggestion is to use social book marking site but if you use social sites which alexa rank below 50k you can get better result.

What does Alexa rank have to do with anything? Well, I guess it's sort of appropriate to use inaccurate metric to track your pointless activities...

Personally I think social bookmarking sites helps increase traffic to your blog or website cause most of their links are nofollow links. I suggest you mix it up with other high ranking social media sites

A nofollow link doesn't automatically increase traffic. Yes, that's probably the only benefit you get from them, but this should tell you why social bookmarking is totally useless.

Directory submissions used to be one of the top notch SEO OFF page strategies. However, things have changed with time. Most of the directory sites are deemed irrelevant or just like link networks now. But the strategy is still pretty effective, provided, you find some quality directory sites and stick to a handful of them.

The top tier sites will give you traffic as they are busy. The lower end ones probably will not do much.

I suppose the links might help with ranking from the quality sites but careful not to over do it as too many links just from social bookmarking sites and nothing else will look iffy.

I have no idea what you're trying to say. You set up your site by setting up your site, not by posting your link to some weak 3rd party site. Social media has no place in this process.

No, it's not. I find that many SEOs don't actually bother. There's no such thing as "high PR website", because PR is calculated for each page. Also, publicly visible Pagerank was last updated in late 2013 so it's not a metric you should use.

Long ago, I tried social bookmarking. I, too, got no rank increase. I got 60% more traffic over the week that follow, one lousy extra sale... Since the sale was $28 to me, not worth my effort.
